Asus A8V BIOS Problem

I recently updated the BIOS from V1008 to V1009 on my Asus A8V board to remedy a problem with the VIA chip not being able to read and write to a Sandisk thumbdrive. It fixed the problem but now I have had to reduce my clock speed from around 2.5 Ghz to 2.29 Ghz or else I get random crashes under heavy load. It's minor but annoying none-the-less.

Has anyone experience this particular problem and does the new Beta BIOS 1010 fix it?

I hate updating the BIOS on most boards unless I'm certain it solves specific problems. It is usually way more trouble then it's worth otherwise.
