1. @mamisano... hey it's a Asus A8R-MVP, not MSI!!!

2. running 325 HTT is EASY for most dfi lanparty series boards.

3. AT was running their mem 1:1 at 325 which is impressive.

True, but we're talking about a first generation chipset on a budget motherboard, not something that's been out over a year?

Yeah...325 is amazing

teh DFI was able to do that right off the bat as well.

i'm not trying to take away from the ability of this new board (i'm getting one too) but i'm just saying that hitting 325 HTT with a divider is no big deal.

AT was using using OCZ Plat Rev 2 2x512MB at flabby-loose timings when they hit 1:1... most importantly their DIMMs used Samsung TCCD. I have the same pair of DIMMs but with TCC5 chips, which supposedly do not overclock as well. I am trying to get a pair of TCCD because I'd like to hit 1:1 as well :)

Computergeek, what do you think I should shoot for? x8 and 2925MHz CPU? That seems a little high for a 3500+/air cooling, but, even at 2600MHz my Scythe Ninja keeps CPU at load under 45C.

I just ordered an Opteron 170 from Monarch for $365. I'll compare both and sell the slower of the two on Ebay :)

What fans are you running on your scythe? Also are you using the 2 tricools on the antec p180 as exhaust fans? If you have a nexus 120mm, tell me how it performs as I'm planning to get almost the exact same stuff as you except maybe an opteron 148. I guess considering you want it silent as well, I guess its a good overclock. The only sucky part of this mobo is you can't decide exactly how much voltage you want the proc. to get - hopefully a bios revision will fix this. BTW, for your overclock I was suggesting reducing the HT frequency to say 300 and then put a multiplier of 9.

Hola,

I *LOVE* the Ninja. It's the best freaking air cooling out there. With the case sealed up and NO intake and NO exhaust fan and an OC'd VF700Cu blowing hot air all over, CPU is 29C idle and 45C at load, with the current OC. I'm missing fans because I'm rewiring some atm :)

Once I finish that, I will have Yate-Loon D12SL-12 fans running undervolted at 5v, so around 900-950RPM, on the Nexus, on the back P180 exhaust, on the front intake ported at my GFX card, and in the HD chamber.

Yeah, I totally hope for a BIOS revision that fixes the VCore issues. I'll be cranking the OC up a little tonight, especially now that I have the E4 3500+ to compare.

The TT Big Typhoon is no slouch either. Thanks to Cool-n-Quiet I am sitting at 30c idle load hits 43-44c. Have no intake fans, one 80mm Exhaust fan that in controlled by its own thermistor. Can barely hear the machine running :) The Fortron PS also has a slow/silent 120mm fan.

Sooo much better than having the Damned DFI southbridge fan whirring all the time.

Uh oh, more bad news from a poor soul at the ASUS board:

"I also cannot select the 1.450v option, I'm having an new Venice CPU wich requires at least 1,45v to run stable, also it's an E6 revision cpu and this bios only supports up to E4, is there a possible solution soon please?"

http://vip.asus.com/forum/bbs.aspx?pare...5Efilter=5%5Eelite=0%5ESLanguage=en-us

I think, more than anything else like OC'ing, dual GPU, the nForce4 chip fan on my MSI Neo4 was why I switched. That thing was a BUZZSAW. I had it plugged into a Fanmate for 5v, which made it quieter, but, uh, it got a mite hot :)

My Opteron 165 is an E6 revision, will only allow up to 1.4v in the bios + .07v for enabling the Overvolt option.

....

WHat are the chances they'll fix that?

I finally decide on a card and now the cpu and mobo are back in flux.

Anyone think that with Nvidia buying Uli these Crossfire mobos with Uli SB's will be gone?

Also, anyone try 4 Dimms with this board?

well I have mine running and so far crossfire is working with 2 x1300pro cards.

Sweet! Any benchmark results yet?

I heard that ATI will soon be releasing x1600 XTs with 256bit bus ring memory -> up to 512mb can be installed on the card. Much better than the current 128bit memory interface and may be on my short list for Crossfire - 2x 1600XTs :)

Damn, I'm guessing you have only 1 fan mounted on the heatsink. The Scythe performs well and I was thinking of putting 2 fans - that would be A) overkill B) loud. Hopefully Asus gets this voltage problem fixed ASAP. This is totally unacceptable esspecially for the guy who needs 1.45 to keep his venice stable.

Duh, just skimmed the AT review of this board, and found among the specs

"Core Voltage: Auto, 0.8V to 1.45V in 0.025V increments PLUS 0.2V with vCore Over-voltage (Maximum vCore 1.65V)"

I haven't seen anything over 1.55v. Anybody seen 1.65v?

Yeah check xtremesystems in the 3d section.
Good scores, about a 40% increase in some benchmarks

Email me and I will send you the BIOS I used for the review. Asus added the higher mem multipliers at my suggestion. The CPU overvolt switch in BIOS suppossedly adds 0.2V to whatever voltage you have already selected. Most recent Asus boards vary the vCore depending on the CPU in use, so the different ranges depending on CPU is likely correct.

I have very few memories that will do 300+ 1:1. Most will "only" do 270 to 285 tops, and our stock TCCD is an exception that easily tops 300 on a few boards. However lower ratios generally allow 300+ on good boards so at least the CPU gets cranked up.

Sent you an email requesting a copy of the BIOS, as per above.

Hi Wesley, me too sent you an email as well. Hope you can email me a copy of the bios.
Thanks.
