ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe RAM suggestions?

Hey all.

I'm stubbornly thinking I should aim to get something in my new ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe that has a low CAS number (2 would be nice), and then filter my older Crucial RAM to my currently under-powered TV box. Anyone know the RAM to get or to avoid?
It's my first ASUS board in forever, so I'm pretty out of the loop on ASUS brand quirks.

My system:

Antec P180b case
2x 120 mm antec and 1x Scythe 120 mm case fans
AMD 64 x2 4400 w/ passive Sythe Ninja
ASUS A8N32SLI-Deluxe
2 x XFX 7950 GTs
4 x 512 MB Crucial Ballistix DDR 3200 RAM
Maxtor Maxline III 300 GB HD
Western Digital SE16 320 GB HD
Hauppauge PVR 500 dual tv tuner card
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
Corsiar HX620 watt
24" Dell 2405FPW

As for what to get,

I'm currently divided between the Corsair XMS for $74 ($44 after rebate) and the OCZ Platinum for $72.99 ($42.99 after rebate).

I've heard OCZ may have some issues with this motherboard, and my previous dealings with them over a bad stick of RAM was one of the worst experiences I've had with an RMA. I know Corsair had (or has) a marketing deal with ASUS and have really liked my Corsair branded Power supply.

I want to run the RAM at the stock listed speeds. I game a bit (thus wanting faster RAM timings), but use my system for everything else too (TV, movies, music, interwebs, 2D and 3D graphic work, office stuff)

Anyone know how much of a speed hit I'd take from upping to 4 GB?

Remember: I like shiny things <.<

Thanks!

First, find out what voltages your motherboard can support. Some memory is designed to operate at certain voltages (not that they can't operate at others), and your manual should tell you which memory voltage(s) to buy.

Then find out which types of memory you can buy and research, research, research.

I prefer corsair or patriot, with Micron/Crucial as my third place. Make sure the memory has a lifetime warranty (most do, some don't), and then get that memory.

You don't need superfast memory to game with. Infact, CAS latency isn't everything (Mac Pros use Fully Buffered DIMM sticks with a CAS of 5-5-5, and those machines outpace most PCs.)

Your "new" A8N32-SLI Deluxe that has been discontinued for over two years?

But while we're on the subject, ASUS finally released a BIOS to address the problems encountered after installing SP3 for Windows XP: 1409 (BETA)

This board (along with the entire A8N Series) had its share of quirks.

The problem persists even with BIOS 1409. I flashed mine to this BIOS and still couldn't install SP3 without having major problem.

The two sets you're considering are probably equal in all practical sense. Go with the price and whatever preference you may have. There is no performance loss from 2GB->4GB. If anything performance will improve. I might have said somewhat differently two years ago (1T vs. 2T and all that), but with the introduction of Vista and 64-bit computing, those are a moot point now.

I had this board. I had 4x512mb crucial ballistix 400 I overclocked to 560mhz or so. You'll spend way too much for ram that can run cas2, with little to no performance increase. You'd be better off getting higher density ram anyhow, so you can run T1 timing. If someone has already said it, they're right; you're money would be better served on current technology.
