Hey guys,

FINALLY put my opteron rig together here. I've been running prime for a little while and it appears I idle at 40 c and full load it about 46 celsius. I noticed that in the Asus software thats giving me a temp on the CPU is saying the voltage is 1.39-1.4v and CPU-Z says 1.35v. Could the motherboard be reading the temps wrong in this case? It seems weird that it would read the voltages incorrect.

ALSO, what steps should I take for installing the processor. I remember reading about installing special software.. does anyone remember a post about Opteron drivers and what to do when setting up the machine?

OH, and in CPUZ it says under the memory tab that the channels are single. Shouldnt that be double if I am running 2x1GB sticks?

.... Bump please

Temps are sitting at 39 completely idle. 46 under load. This seems high to me.

Stock speed ? mine does 40c @2550 1.450 vcore. Does sound a little high, but motherboards can really vary. I had an X2 3800@2550 that said 67c load on a Chaintech S1689. Then I moved the same cpu and hsf to an Asrock sata2, and it not say 50c. Same voltage and speed. Both were using speedfan.

Is the A8N32 even compatible with Opteron cpus? If so, I want one =D

But it's categorized under Athlon64/AthlonFX/AthlonX2 on the egg..

If you do install the X2 driver from AMD be sure and get the Opteron version (off the same page), I missed that one and had some phreaky behavior. I ran my 175 without any special drivers for a week before I installed said X2 driver and could find absolutely no difference. Test results, program use, CPU graphs in task manager, anything I could think of, all showed no appreciable difference. I did have one issue immediately after installing it with my graphics card going haywire, but after a restart it's stabilized. It's also a new build, so..??? The ASUS AiBoost software behaved erratically for me - voltage fluctuation and cpu frequency. It regularly went wacko, but the computer was stable otherwise. I've read other accounts of the same here. CPU-Z (make sure you're using 1.31, reports OPTERON correctly et.al.) showed no variation while ASUS went berserk. It does report dual regarding memory for me. As for temps. I was getting 32-39C with Zalmann and AS-5. After reformatting (corrupted windows having left SATA on 1 during O.C. trials, live and learn...) I didn't reinstall the ASUS software so I don't know exactly what temps I'm getting and I only use BIOS for overclocking, so I don't miss it's lunacy. ASUS A8N-E, Opty 175, 2 GB OCZ, MSI GTX 7800. Hope some of this is useful.

It is the Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe mobo with an Opteron 170. Runs like a charm. I definately had the wrong drivers installed. Thanks for letting me know.

I am building a system that is very similar to yours, and I entend to overclock as much as possible tell i hit 50C full load.
here's the system specs:
a8n32-sli deluxe
opteron 170
twinx1024-3200xlpro(very tall) 4 sticks(2gb total)
2x evga 7800 gt's

now here's the problem, I hear that the big typhoon hsf takes up alot of room, now i saw that you are using an a8n32-sli and the tt typhoon, I was wondering if it took up the a1 dimm slot, or of it towered over it and by how far? I have searched through google for hours now and i can't get a clear answer and no pictures

if you would be kind enough, could you please take some pics of the clearance, and i was wondering, if you've overclocked, how did it handle? because the zalman hsf is much smaller and does a pretty good job, but i would rather go tt.

thanks

I have the same board and processor.

I am fairly certain that somehow the CPU and mobo temperatures are reversed in PC Probe and also Speedfan which I tried.

Not sure why or how they are reversed but pretty sure they are.

That minor quibble aside. Board works great.
