Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe noise problem

I am having a problem with my sound on my A8N32-SLI Deluxe (AMD 64 x2 4400+, 1 GB PC3200 RAM, Nvidia 7600 GT GPU). I am running Windows XP SP2.

I am using the on-board ALC850 SPU with the latest Nvidia Nforce4 driver set (6.14.0462.0).

I almost always hear low-level static noise coming from my speakers. I didn't hear this noise from previous sound cards on same speaker system, so it isn't the speakers. The noise sounds similar to "white noise" with a small buzzing component.

Raising the master volume level increases the volume of the noise. Applying "Master Mute" eliminates the noise. The amount of noise increases with increased CPU loading.

It seems like some low-level noise is being generated in my system.

Does anyone have any ideas on fixing this problem?

Thanks!

sxr7171 - No, I'm using the back connectors.

Capt Caveman - I hear a similar problem when using the Realtek Audio Drivers.

I dumped the onboard in favor of a Turtle Beach Montego. I had the same problem with the onboard - hissing coming through the speakers. I first tried an Audigy ZS Gamer, but couldn't get the drivers to install correctly. The Montego has been working fine for me.

Ugh, I hope the TOSLink optical out won't exhibit this when finally setup my system to the speakers.

FSH42NA - I have an old Turtle Beach Santa Cruz card that I haven't tried installing yet. I was trying to avoid loading in a ton of audio drivers / software that shouldn't be necessary.

Thor86 - I'm going to connect up a TOSLink cable tonight to see if it has any effect. I'll let you know how it goes. However, this would only be a temporary solution. I need to use the analog lines, since I occasionally use my PC's audio outputs/inputs as a spectrum analyzer for testing speaker crossover circuitry.

Right now, I'm pretty frustrated. A motherboard this expensive shouldn't have these issues.

Has anyone found a solution to the noise problem yet?

I totally agree with your last statement. I don't have a fix but I'm having issues with my A8N-SLI Dlx's NIC card. I hope you find your solution.

I had a similiar problem with static coming from my speakers. I believe I corrected he problem by using the realtek audio drivers from the install cd.

pauche - I just tried using the Realtek audio drivers that were on the Asus CD. I still heard noise from the speakers.

An odd thing was that the sound of the noise seemed slightly different with the Realtek drivers, but it may be my imagination.

Thor86 - I don't know why, but my optical S/PDIF seems to be dead. I don't see a red light coming from the end of my optical cable when I have it plugged into the motherboard.

Sigh ... This mobo has been the biggest pain-in-the-butt upgrade I have ever experienced.

Thor86 - I was able to get the S/PDIF optical output to work again. I had to uninstall the Nvidia Audio drivers and re-install the Realtek Audio drivers.

Now, here's the results of the S/PDIF optical audio:

1) The static noise appears to be gone. However, it may not truly be gone. I have a Logitech 5.1 surround sound system, and the controller shows "No Digital Data" when audio isn't being played (even though the red laser light is always on). It's totally silent when no audio is being output to the speakers, which is what is important. If there is some low-level noise still being output when there is other audio being played, I can't hear it.

This seems like using the optical S/PDIF solves your problem, Thor86, BUT ...

2) If you have a 5.1 surround system, you're probably screwed. Getting all 6 channels to operate was kinda odd. You have to start up the Asus RealTek Sound Manager and set it up as follows:

- S/PDIF-Out: Output digital only.
- Speaker Configuration: 2CH Speaker. Yes, you're reading that right. When I set it up for "6CH Speaker" (the expected setting), the 3D Audio Demo only had sound coming out of the Left Front and Right Front speakers. Setting for "2CH Speaker" had sound coming from all 6 speakers ... but incorrectly. When the 3D Audio Demo sound should have gone from Left Front ==> Center ==> Right Front ==> Right Rear ==> Left Rear ==> Left Front, it instead went from Left Front ==> Center ==> Right Front ==> Right Rear ==> Right Front ==> Center ==> Left Front ==> Left Rear, which means that surround sound would be all messed up. When I used the analog outputs, the surround decoding was correct.

If you don't have surround sound, you can probably use the S/PDIF optical outputs OK, though.

For me, though - I'm still screwed. I need to get the analog channels working without the noise.

OK - Here's the latest scoop!

I found a partial fix to the static problem, and I was surprised that it actually worked ...

Here it is (drum-roll, please): Disconnecting the PC Case speaker from the motherboard fixed the constant low-level static problem!

It was not a total cure, though. When my CPU (or possibly GPU) gets loaded, I still hear a buzzing noise during the loading. For example, moving a window on the screen or using a scroll bar in my Internet browser will cause a buzzing sound while I am doing the moving. When the movement stops, so does the buzzing.

One last problem to fix ...

I remember that there was an static issue with using 96KHz instead of the more staid 48KHz on the audio. Donno if this has ANYTHING to do with this!

The problem is the CD-AUDIO IN JACK on your soundcard....
On the mixer disable the CD AUDIO input (or where you have plug the cd audio jack from the DVD) and when you need it re-enable!

Byez!

I had the same problem, I installed the nvidia nforce drivers on the advise of my now blacklisted friends. Assoon as I did I had a constant low level static coming through my speakers, I muted everything i could to see where it was coming from. Only by muting the main audio source would it stop. the static even came through on my headphones when plugged into the front connector.

Fix: Rolled back drivers to originals and problem went away, audio is perfect again.

P.S. I also have the A8N32 board

there's only really 3 things you have to do to get it to work:

1) install realtek drivers
2) set digital out in realtek manager
3) install purevideo and set output to spidf via receiver (at least for me)

works perfectly in all applications (especially dvd movies)..

Hello everyone!
My first post in this forum. I just found a strange solution to this problem. I dont use the same motherboard ass you do, but I post it here anyway. My problem was simular, but with the headphones. I heard a ZZZ ZZ ZZZZZ buzzing noise when moving the mouse or when the harddrives work and kind of loud white noise to. Scrolling with the mouse wheel gave a high noise. The headphones use a USB cable for force feedback, the noise got much worse with USB cable plugged in.

The solution for me was:
I had my charging unit for the wireless home phone to close to the headphones!
Somehow I must have managed to have the phone charger near me every time I tried to find a solution for this error.. Its pure luck I found out that moving the phone device some meters away solved the problem almost completly.. I can only hear the noise from mouse and harddrives when I have highest volume on the headphones now, maybe the headphones is to blame for the noise I still can hear, or maybe drivers as you say. I dont know if all phones from eDimensional is this crappy as this one or if its just my bad luck... Anyway, if you havent found a solution yet, try searching for other electrical interferance...

I dont think moving the phone is the obvius solution for removing a noise related to the ammount of loading the harddrive and mouse takes. Hope it helps someone. Bye!

The removal of the PC speaker got me thinking and I tried simply muting the PC speaking using the mixer.

and viola! buzzing sound completely gone!

Nod.

I too had buzzing. This thread got me to enable all input devices and mute them one at a time until the buzzing disappeared. PC Speaker was the culprit for me also. The Microphone also adds hiss, but I always mute that anyhow.

The problem for me had nothing to do with drivers. I do have a wireless print server right next to my PC, and I am not too far from my wireless router. perhaps they contribute to the problem, but muting the PC Speaker worked.

Thanks. This forum solved my problem very quickly. A8N32-SLI Deluxe....smoothest install I have ever enjoyed.

That's it that's the ticket. The bug is not in the drivers it's in the ASUS Sound Manager. It works perfect on two channel setting for 5.1 output on optical. If you set it to 5.1 it does not work only the front three speakers work. Setting it to two channel fixed it good. I wanted to add to this thread slightly so it shows up better on Google searches.. It took me awhile to find it. Lots of people are reporting this problem BTW.. Many solutions that don't work. Tried them all and none worked, but this one worked perfectly. Mute all unused outputs for hum free sound. That is after you add all the volume controls in advanced options on Volume control.

ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe SPDIF Optical Problem solved. Logitech Z-5500, Realtek ALC850 Drivers 5.10.0.5900 AC'97 This should also work on the Z-5450 Digital 5.1 Speaker System that people are also saying that they can't get the rear speakers to work.

Thanks for sharing this, Had me puzzled. Thought I had purchased a fiber for nothing. Sounds great now. Perfect 5.1 digital sound on all speakers.

Excellent,

Have a great day.

To All..
It is very simple problem.

Start-Settings-control panel-Sounds and audio devices-Advanced-
In mix panel :eek:ptions-Proporties-check PC SPEAKER and then PC SPEAKER MUTE!!!

Thats all - no brum or noise.
