It's driving me crazy, as i am trying to use this mobo as my HTPC, & crackling & static during movies...well it doesn't sound too hawt.

I tried newest drivers, as well as just XP's generic drivers.
Both have same issue.

Anyone know of a solution aside from buying another sound card?

The only thing I can add is I have an A8N32-SLI mobo and the sound has always been fantastic. I almost bought a sound blaster right away having read forums with a lot of audio concerns on the A8N32, but I am glad I didn't. It has been perfect.

How old is the board? Maybe you just got a bad one?

Use the latest Realtek drivers, and not the NVAudio.

I am 🙁

Board i've had since winter.

It was my primary system for a while, but i always used a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS instead.

Now i have the Audigy 2 in my C2D system, & the A8N32-SLI is my entertainment system...with crap audio.

I am bidding on an X-Fi on eGhay...maybe i'll get lucky & it won't shoot up astronomically in the last few minutes 🙁

I decided to "fix" the issue with a $15 Dynex 5.1 sound card, which seems to be doing a lot better than the onboard was.

I tried also in the past setting a PC for the living room and had exactly the same issue as you. It was an Asus with the Nforce2 chipset, but most onboard audio gives the same results. It is ok for gaming and office, but no-no for HTPC. Solution was also a cheap audio card, I used an old Hercules with Crystal chip (forgot the name....)

I'm using on my main rig an SB Audigy 2, which is mostly problem free and good enough for me. I haven't tried it recently, some modern mobos bring the onboard audio on a riser (Abit) or a separate module (DFI). They should be better, but again not in micro-atx size for a HTPC build.
