ASUS A8N-SLI - System Failed Memory Test

Yeah, I've had my memory in and out many times (my new DIMMS and old ones) in various slots and made sure they clicked all the way in. At this point, the CPU is the only thing left that could be the culprit. Hopefully it didn't hurt the mobo any.

9/10 times if the memory is incorrectly seated, the system won't even power on, but that's true, memory seat is something to be extra sure of. I think the proc just has a bad memory controller - either get it tested, or RMA it. I don't think it's the mobo.

Yeah, unlikely the mobo since this is my second. I got my RMA approval so I'll send it off tomorrow. Been building this system since December 26th. 🙁

I got exactly the same problem as you monkey dust.

Had multiplier at x10 FSB at 300, Gskill memory at 3-2-2-5, running sweet in Sli on 2x6800GT's at 415/1100.

Other system parts:

Raptor 74GB SATA (not raid)
Seagate 200GB SATA
Optorite DVD-Writer
Audigy 2 ZS
OCZ Powerstream 520w

Superpi 1m @ 34secs
Superpi 32m @ 29m 12secs
3dmark2001se @ 24904
3dmark03 @ 20901
3dmark05@ could not run had some issues with Sli

Unit was running then would not post, set-up speaker and got the memory failure post, tried all DIMMS after clearing BIOS/CMOS/Battery each time still got same problem.

How have you got on with yours? Was it the CPU? Or did you have a a 2nd dodgy MOBO?

I just got an A8N-SLI and was having the same problem. The only way to fix it was to put the single ram chip into the second blue slot (A2 i think it's called)

I had the same problem on two of those boards (got one of em still sitting here on the floor waiting to be RMA'd).

I gave up and ordered a DFI-SLI mobo which got here today. Everything is up and running on the DFI with no issues so far.

I had a similar situation occur (system failed memory test) only my system would boot fine 7 out 10 times. When I reseated the DDR it would clear-up. Then yesterday reseating didn't work. However, I was able to fire up the system with one bank of 512. I took the advice of OCZ and set the DDR voltage to 2.75 in the BIOS. So far no problems. Ran MEMTEST86+ all night and no errors.

Not sure why monkeydust was having problems with ASUS support. I got through fine. However, they thought it may be a EMI/grounding problem and suggested that I place fiber washers on my stand-offs. Haven't done that yet...I'll see how things go over the next few days before removing the MB.

Has anyone on this forum had to use fiber/plastic washers in their cases? Recommendations welcome....
