Just to let you know I just bought the Asus A8N-SLI Premium nForce4 SLI Athlon 64x2.

Was haveing problems with it. Was looking on some forums and found out I was not the only one having problems with no post and no video. Called ASUS and told me that even thought they are selling them as AMD 64x2 boards they are being shipped with an old BIOS. They where trying to tell me that I would need to send them my BIOS chip and then FLASH it. Telling me to send them MONEY. This what they sent me:

Here is the BIOS pricing guide, along with the procedure to obtain a new/reflashed BIOS chip.

If you are in North America, you can order a NEW BIOS chip online at http://helpdesk.asus.com/biosorder/store/aci_dynamicIndex.asp.

Pricing Guide for Canadian Orders:

FLASHED OR NEW CHIP - Via FEDEX Ground Delivery

$35.00 (USD, standard price for Canada)

THIS IS WHAT I SENT THEM

Hell no I am not paying for shipping. I bought your mother board that is advertised for the AMD 64 x 2 processor. How about you send me the new BIOS chip for free and I will send you the old one with a return package paid for by ASUS. I paid $170 for a mother board that was shipped with an old BIOS. Or you can buy back my motherboard. It is not my fault it is ASUS! And to think that I should even have to pay more for this board to work is crazy. Just to let you know I?m not the only one with this problem.

Interesting. A lot of people have been having great success with the A8N-SLI Premium. Guess you got ripped off.

Just wondering, how many times are you going to post this? I haven't seen this problem posted here or anywhere else. Don't think maybe you screwed the bios yourself? Regardless, three post in three diff. threads in same forum within a few hours doesn't quite seem necessary does it........

You posted in both! Matter of fact twice in MOBO........ Looks like a lot of typing by accident.

I hate to sound harsh, but the "no post" and "no video" symptom is the most common. These could result from bad memory, bad video card, motherboard, and simple user errors. How about the power supply? Is it adequet and did you plug in both the 24pin and 4pin. If you have a lot of peripherals and running SLI, did you use the EZ plug?

ps. many here will try to help you out, so to directly pin point your problems, you need to give more info. Also please don't post in multiple forums. You should delete all others except the mobo section.

Also lady on the phone said that the BIOS on the motherboard is to old and will not be able to see the CPU.....

I've already replied to this post in motherboards. I bought my Asus A8N-SLI Premium from ZZF over a month ago and it worked out of the box X2 compatible. What are you talking about? What bios do you have? Have you even built your system? Other than the very first boards and mine was one of them, are shipping with bios 1005.

And don't post the same thread in multiple forums. Sounds like user error to me.

The Premium Only comes with 90nm bioses or better which means under no circumstances would a working X2 stop our system from posting. It might not reconize it as a X2 it might only see it asa random single core CPU but it will still work and allow you to update your bios. are you sure you got the Premium and not the Deluxe?

So did the new bios come in and does it work?

I'm having the same problem. Apparently it's only with Athlon 64 processors with revision E3.

Out of interest does the mobo's box have AMDx2 logo's on it or anything? I'm wondering if maybe some retailers are still selling their older stocks of the board, while Asus are actually shipping ones with newer bioses? Boards I've bought before have had pretty recent bioses, but never bought an Asus.

i have the same issue, i got an a64 3200+ rev e3/sli premium combo from monarch : (.

no post, no video. tried everything. when i take processor out i actually get more than just fans blowing and lights on. it tells me no cpu installed. but when i install it. all i get is power and nothing else. ram is removed, but it still doesnt tell me that it failed memory test.

dunno what to do. thought it was a bad proc. went out bought a new a64 3200+ retail revision e6 this time. still nothing. gonna RMA the board unless someone has a solution. it does seem like a bios issue, but my keyboard gets no power or response when a CPU gets installed, so i can't even Alt+F2 to flash the chip. holding "insert" does nothing. power button doesnt work when cpu is installed, but does work when the socket is empty. power supply is a thermaltake xaser 480W.

this is frustrating. has anyone actually solved this problem by replacing the bios chip or will i be wasting my time?

if i rma it i will try to make sure they ship it to me with the correct bios revision for a Venice e6 stepping.

I had a working one for about 4 months and then one day tweaking the BIOS and got no POST (just a flashing '_' cursor in the upper left corner) whenever my SCSI card was installed.

Tried everything on my end, even bough a new SCSI card...RMA'd it and they had to hard flash the BIOS I was told. I am thinking the BIOS get's corrupted and reflashing/clearing the CMOS won't fix it.

I went out and bought a MSI NEO4 Platinum/SLI while I waited for my RMA...I kept it and sold the A8N, I do believe ASUS makes a bit better products (features)...but I am happy.
