Asus A8N-SLI Dlx No POST, No Beeps, No Signal

My Setup:

Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
AMD Athlon X2 4400
OCZ Premium PC-4000 2x1GB
eVGA 7800GT
Soundblaster X-Fi
36GB WD Raptor
650W Enermax Modular PSU

This is how the story goes...

I pulled all of the parts from my case to clean the dust out of the case / off of the components and to replace a failed chipset fan on the mobo. I popped all of the components back in a booted up.

The first time I pressed the power button nothing happened. The second time it booted and I got post beep but a message saying something about CMOS before I could read it it had already started booting normally.

The computer was left on for a day of usage by my gf and then she turned it off. When I got home from work the computer would turn on (all fans spinning, etc.) but there was no POST beep whatsoever and the monitor light would blink indicating no signal but the no signal display never came up.

I have tried pulling the extra components (vid card, sound, HD, CDROM) to see if I get a beep but to no avail. Tried pulling the MB battery out...left it for 30 minutes...put back in and still no beeps. Could this possibly be a short that failed to make itself known immediately?
One thing that occured to me recently...one of the prongs on the I/O shield that is supposed to be moved out of the way of one of the Ethernet Ports on the MB is actually sticking into the port. The cable still seemed to fit so I pushed it in and the net worked but it came loose so I pushed it in again. Following that episode and after restarting I was faced with the no beeps, etc problem. Could that be causing the short or could it be the standoffs?

This is all really strange because the computer seemed to boot up and work without problems the first time after putting everything back into the case (except for that new, missed message about the CMOS)

Any ideas would be great...I am stuck with my stupid Toshiba Satellite atm.

Thanks

It sounds like it may've been a CMOS back-up prompt. I know on my old X2 machine, if I change any hardware component, it backs up the CMOS.

Try removing the I/O Shield's Network Jack clip from the port. It's always worth a shot, right? I don't think that'll fix it, but I'm a bit perplexed at the moment.

I doubt it's the piece of metal sticking into your ethernet port. I guess pulling the battery out for 30 minutes is equivalent to resetting the CMOS jumper. Have you double checked your installation? Standoffs shouldn't be a problem, since theoretically you shouldn't have had to move any of them to replace a chipset fan. I'm guessing you made sure you plugged in all necessary power to the mobo... I think I had the same symptoms once when I forgot to plug in the 20-pin and the 4-pin to my mobo.

Why were you replacing the chipset fan? Were there other problems with overheating or anything that led you to do that?

No problems with overheating but the fan failed and it needed to be replaced...didn't want to wait a month for asus to replace it with stock so I bought an aftermarket fan. I really don't understand why this isn't working. The only thing I removed permanently was the controller for my UV lights which was plugged into one of the additional 4 pin power connectors from the PSU and was not powering any lights in the first place.

If the chipset is fried shoudlnt I at least get some sort of POST beep signifying this?

Try plugging in some speakers, this board has the voice post reporter it will give post messages such as "failed cpu test" or "failed vga test", etc.... . That should give you an idea where the problem is

Even if I am not receiving any post beeps I will still get the voice? I am at work now so I am just trying to get some ideas for when I get home.

Yes even if you're not hearing any beeps you will hear a voice. This happend to me and when I finally hooked up speakers I could hear the motherboard telling me what was wrong.

Well I tried plugging both speakers and headphones into every single 1/8" audio port on the mobo and heard nothing. Any ideas? Should I try pulling it all out of the case and setting it up on a non-conductive surface?

Got me... If you have the power hooked up to the mobo correctly and it won't post at all then it does sound like it got fried somehow while you were swapping the chipset fan. Maybe take it up with ASUS, but I'm guessing that putting an aftermarket chipset fan on the board won't make them very warm and fuzzy about replacing the board...

No problem....I will remove the new fan and put the failed on back on....doubt they will notice.

One thing I did notice last night...and I don't know if this is just my imagination, what is supposed to happen, or the cause of the problem....but when I set my mobo up on a non-conductive surface to try it with just the cpu memory and headphones hooked to the speaker port to listen for the voice telling me what was wrong...it seemed that the PSU wasn't giving me the ooomph that I usually hear coming from it.

Would this be due to the fact that it is only powering the mobo, cpu, and memory? Will it recognize this and make the PSU fan spin at low rpms right upon start-up?

Sounds like the problem I am having. One day my PSU gave up so I got another one of a different brand. I stripped down the computer so all that was left was the motherboard, the cpu and the psu. When I try to start it all I get is the fans spinning but no beep or anything from the speakers. Resetting the CMOS didn't seem to help one bit.

What I also don't get is why the CPU fan goes to full speed if I press and hold the reset-button but when I release it the speed will decrease.

A friend of mine has the same board, and he has to hold the power button for a few seconds... try it.

I removed everthing from the motherboard. When I first started it I heard a voice saying it no CPU found so I put that in and started again. No voice complaining about not having any memory or vga card, just the cpu fan spinning at half the speed and nothing else. I also tried to connect the gpu and a memory stick but results were still the same.

I think something may have happened when the PSU died, question is if it's the mainboard or cpu that is broken.

I had a similar problem with the fans spinning, but no post nor beeps. It turned out that both the mobo and the CPU were toast. Hopefully that's not your problem...

ElTee how did you discover both were toast...and in which case did both manufacturers replace their respective products?

Last weekend I borrowed a system from a friend who got the same motherboard. My components worked on his motherboard so I have sent back mine on warranty.
