Alright guys, I've been stalking this forum for a while. I find it very educational. I just built my first computer last week. I turned it on for the first time and it posted, everything ok. I go the system up and running without a problem! I was pretty excited to get it going on my first try!

Anyway, a few days later I went to turn on my computer, and I got long beeps (memory problem). I re-seated the ram and tried to boot a few times with no luck. Last night, I remembered someone post something about problems with dual channel ram. So I took out a stick in B1 (left 512 in A1). I turned it on and it worked. What's the deal??

Im running bios 1008.

System:
ASUS A8N-SLI DELUXE
Athlon 64 3200+ (venice)
Corsair XMS 1GB Dual Channel
OCZ 450W Power supply
MSI 6600GT PCIe
2x SATA HDD
Floppy
DVD-RW
DVD-ROM

Dual channel is VERY fussy about timing.

Fortunately Corsair has forum where they've posted specific recommended timing settings to use with their XMS memory on specific mobos they've tested. Go here and look up your mobo and use their recommended settings: http://www.houseofhelp.com/v2/showthread.php?t=38150

If your board isn't listed I would Email or post RAMGuy on the forum, or contact Corsair directly and ask them for timing recommendations for your mobo. Better than fiddling with the timing settings yourself trying to find a stable config by trial and error.

Hope this helps...

Thanks, I'm going to try that this afternoon. I think in the bios it had my CAS latency at 3. That rang a warning bell, but everything was working so I just left it.

Hey Guys, I couldn't find the motherboard/ram combo on that link. I updated the bios and it still didn't work. When I put both ram sticks in A1 & A2 it works. The moment I try to boot in A1 & B1 I get the beeps!

I'm going to post to the guy who ran that test, but anyone have any other ideas???

Any help would be appreciated.

Using A1 & A2 disables dual channel. You can do that for now until your resolve the dual channel problem.

Yes I'd definately contact RAMGuy or Corsair and ask them about recommended timing settings for XMS memory on that mobo.

I have an Asus A7N8X-E Mobo that I installed some twin-ram XMS memory in. It was totally unstable untill I used the recommended timing settings in that link I gave you and it's been rock solid ever since.

The A8N is a relatively new mobo and they may not have gotten around to testing it yet, buy since it's an NForce4 mobo you might try the recommended timing for another NForce4 mobo and see if that works.

Well, I just placed the ram sticks in A2 & B2 and now it's working..... I'm going to cross my fingers and hope it continues to work in these slots. Dual Channel is back!
