OK, here's a status update. Memtest passed all tests. Nothing wrong with the memory.

So, I unplugged everything but the boot drive. It booted fine. Next I plugged in the cdroms. Booted ok. Plugged in the WD IDE drive. Booted ok.

Plugged in the Maxtor SATA-2 drive. NOTHING. Ah ha! Plugged it into another port. Nothing. Used a different cable. Nothing.

I will try it on the other controller to see what I get.

Im using a 520 watt TTGI PSU it has 28A on the 3.3v rail, 52A on the 5v rail, and 20A on the 12v rail. The power supply has always worked well and kept stable power enough to propel my 2500 mobile to 2.9GHz on a NF7-S so i know its not that plus i have used a 600 and 550 watt psu and have had about the same luck.

See this thread for explanation of the cause of the POST problem. It's a bug in beta bios which causes corruption after PSU is turned off or disconnected.

let me understand, did you ever try to clear the CMOS before sending the board back so many times ?

Wanted to tell you all about my woes with posting and this motherboard.

I was using a built system for a week fine.
3200+ Winchester,
2GB ram, 160G HD
6600GT eveything fine for a week or so

Needed to reboot for doing some sort of update. Then the computer stopped posting. I never went past the boot-screen.. i mean the ASUS logo screen. it didn't do the memory test, no post messages. nothing.
I cleared the CMOS, disconencted drives etc, checked each stick of memory and dis everything just like y'all posted..

so I was gonna try to flash the bios from a floppy. I didn't isntall a floppy in my machine so I was going to pull out the case more to expose the motherboard more easily. In doing so, I just disconencted my USB stuff. On a whim, I powered it on and the system booted fine.. no problems.

Turns out, if I have connected my 40G USB drive, it doesn't post. dead to the world! WTF?
I"m trying to find out which drive enclosure it is.. just a cheap one.. but whoah.

Hi slime uk i'm chicco from italy i had your problem 2 time

my system:

a8n sli deluxe
amd 64 3500+
ram 1 gb
raid 0 with 2 hd maxtor 300gb
1 maxtor ide 160 gb
6600 GT nvidia not in sli
technisat skystar 2

With my old computer all ok but with the new skystar 2 crash the system after 3 or 4 frame then the bios is dead no more start.
In any case the only possibility you have is to change the motherboard i have do that already 2 times.

now i use the computer without skystar and all is ok

if you have other solution please contact me skystar in very important for me !

Hi Chicco,

I am sorry to say that I do not have a solution - I did send the mobo back and got a new one. Since then I have NOT tried the SS2 in this one - too scared to try!

I still don't understand how adding the SS2 can "blow the mobo or BIOS" but if it happened to you (twice) and me then it's a little too much of a coincidence.

I have a STB which I use so the SS2 was only another option - so I guess I do not miss it as much as you do??

If you find a solution - please let me know - good luck....

Regards,
Slime.

My mobo started to quit posting and I tore everything out.. memory, drives. finally I disconnected a USB drive.. yes, a USB DRIVE!
I've noticed that when I have my USB 2.0 drive plugged in, the computer doesn't post!
Don't know what brand it is.. it's just a case and I put a junky 40GB in it.

Hello Chicco & slime uk
My mobo is going back to asus too. After some tests with the bios 1003 final, the pci bus was not responding anymore. All my cards were not detected by the bios. The ethernet ports were dead too.
It seems that there is a major incompatibility between the asus and the technisat card.
What is the revision of your SS2 ?

Hi (again!) magicone,

I have rev 2.3. I take it your STOP errors got worse? Like I said I have been too scared to try it agin on the 2nd mobo I got.

Good Luck - let us know how things go please...

Cheers,
Slime
