Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe problem

I just started working on putting this system together and have run into a problem that I cannot fix. Would really appreciate some assistance.

Components listed below. After I install Windows XP Pro and go to install the Asus NVidea driver program the computer locks up in the middle. It is completely locked up and the only thing that can be done is another complete fresh install of Windows. I have now gone through this 6 times and each time that I think it is working it locks up, screen is black, and there is nothing that can be done because there's no screen. I have even tried using just Asus drivers w/same result
Help please

AMD Dual Core X2 4400
Evga 6800GT
Patriot 2 -1GB PC3200 400Mhz
Enermax EG565P-FMA power supply w/SLI support
Logitech DiNovo desktop media set
Plextor 712SA/SW

Can't help you there. But heres a little advice, replace the chipset heatsink with an aftermarket cooler. The stock chipset heatsink fan dies after 2-3 months. It's alot easier to replace it when you can easily take the motherboard out of the case.

Have you updated to a current bios that supports X2? 1011 or 1012 I beleive.

You might also try not installing the nVidia IDE drivers, they have caused problems for many people, just use the default windows IDE drivers.

Yes running 1012. Thanks. I am now finding a problem with the Plextor SATA drive and will try replacing it with an IDE and see if that helps.

hey ive got A8N-SLI put your BIOS to 1011 this 1012 betas ive found to be really unstable,
dont use the drivers off the cd they were also pretty buggy
get the latest nforce 4 6.53s of the nvidia website and and forceware 77.72s for your video card, aswell as the X2 driver from amd hopefully this helps

Thanks for input. Where are you saying to get the X2 driver from?
Also does Bios 1011 work of for X2?
And here is another problem I am having. In getting the chipset drivers off Asus site, there are 2 zip files that are supposed to be unzipped and put in 1 file.
Then you run first one. I cannot get those to open on any computer.
Again, thanks for help
