asus a8n-sli deluxe ethernet problems

i just installed my new asus a8n-sli deluxe today. i installed the original nforce4 drivers off the cd and then downloaded the updated ones from the website. with the old drivers and the new ones i was unable to get online. i would hook up my ethernet cable to the first ethernet jack and nothing would work - tried the second with the same result. both jacks did show the orange/blinking lights for 100mbps and activity, respectively.

the only way i was able to get online was to hook up both ethernet ports with cords from my router. this is the only way i can get online.

in network settings it will show both local area connections as active. however, when i unplug one of the two ethernet cables the network connections will say the opposite port is unplugged. it is impossible to get online with only one ethernet cable.

how can i fix this so i don't need to use my router to get online with only one cable?

Dual Gigabit LAN & AI NET2
The integrated dual Gigabit LAN design allows a PC to serve as a network gateway for managing traffic between two separate networks. This capability ensures rapid transfer of data from WAN to LAN without any added arbitration or latency.
ASUS AI NET2 remotely detects cable connection the second you turn on the system, and any faulty connections are reported back up to 100 meters at 1 meter accuracy.

Try disabling the AI NET2 since the PC is probably not being used as a gateway. I would also disable one of the onboard LAN ports, since you only need one. Hopefully someone more familiar with this mobo will offer some insight.

If I where you I would disable the nvidia Ethernet in the Bios, and use only the marvel lan. The the nivdia Firewall is very buggy Atm it needs new drivers. It causes BSOD with p2p software.
There should be know reseon that i can think of why you need two Cables to connect.
Are you sure you have the right sort of rj45 cable

disabling the nvidia didn't work. i connected my cable modem directly to the top marvel lan and ie and firefox didn't work. under network settings it says that lan 2 is working properly, but i can't get online. any other ideas?

why is this?

also, what is the point of having two lan inputs anyway?

"ipconfig /all" - post the results.

Two LAN inputs - useful for bridging two networks. For example. /Almost/ entirely irrelevant for most home users.

I also disabled the Nvidia LAN and only use the Marvell one, otherwise I was getting BSOD's as was previously stated.

Try updating the driver information in general, perhaps it could also be a router issue?

i disabled the nvidia lan from bios (version 1008), installed the marvell drivers from the cd and connected the marvell lan directly to my cable modem. upon xp boot it says that i have a local area connection unplugged. i then hook up the nvidia lan (just to test) to the cable modem - same problem. i then try hooking up the marvell to the router - same problem. i then hook up both lans to the router with 2 cables - same problem.

the only way i can get online is to enable both lans in the bios and connect both of them to my router. if i disable the nvidia under network settings i can't get online. surely there's a way to fix this.

Start, Run, CMD

Type "ipconfig /all" in there. Use the control menu to copy & paste from it to here.
