I wasn't sure where to put this topic and gave it a shot here first.

A8N sli Deluxe (BIOS 1007)
+3500 (90)
1 gb corsair memory
Windows XP pro
GeForce 6800 gt
Antec neo 480
Audigy zs2 SC
I connect to the internet with a Speedstream DSL modem and a Linksys router. The other PC hooked into this connection has no problem whatsoever.I have a good connection but I get disconnected and it seems to freeze quite often. For example when I try to download a file,it'll go fine for a while then just totally stop dead.I will be playing a multi player game on the internet with a .20 ping and after 20 minutes or so just totally disconnect. After the freeze, all is fine again.

I have ran virus scans, defrags, adaware, spybot and everything else that I could think of.The nvidia firewall is off along with the windows firewall.XP is up to date. The NVidia LAN connection is disabled in the bios(same trouble with that port) and have also installed a Linksys ethernet pci card to see if it would help....Same problem.I ma presently hooked up to the Marvell LAN port with the most recent drivers I can find.

I have checked DSL reports site and still cant get to the bottom of this problem.Been looking for weeksl

If you tried a pci ethernet card and had the same troubles then the problem is not your pc, try to borrow someones router, thats where you should start looking for your troubles.

Don't need to borrow someone's router, you can just bypass the router and log on with your computer directly connected to the DSL modem. You'll need your login information. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network Connections. From that window go to "Create a New Connection" which is in the upper left corner of the window. It should be sorta self explanatory from there. Most ISP's log on via PPPoE.

If you're still getting the same disconnects then it might be a bad phone line. Ask your ISP or your phone provider to check the line for static. It also might be a bad DSL modem or a bad ethernet connectors on your motherboard. With a bad modem you'll need a replacement. To check if it's a bad motherboard you'd need a PCI based network card or another computer in the same ethernet port (on the router) that you're having problems with. However, since it's happening on both ethernet ports of the computer, I'm inclined to think it's not your motherboard. The most likely culprit would be the router. My Linksys router craps out occasionally and I have to power it down and then restart it. Another thing to check is the network cable itself. I've made some bad crimps on ethernet lines that looks like it works fine but when traffic is running through it, it dies.

I have seen this problem elsewhere and thought it might be the Mobo.I am hooked into the modem direct now and will see how it works. The Asus has two LAN connections and I think one must be a pass through.I have "Network Gateway" listed in my network connections.
Thanks for the replies and all the info folks.
