Asus A8N-Sli Deluxe BIOS update....help!

Hi all got an ASUS A8N-Sli Deluxe, its currently just got its standard factory BIOS version 1009... i have XP sp2 and various games/applications installed...

Can i update this straight to the latest version - within windows?? Or do i have to boot from CD (as i dont ahve floppy...!) The latest (non-beta) version is 1014 but i'm a little confused as to how to go about updating...!?!

Yes, you can use the ASUS Update tool that comes on the CD, or you can download a newer version off of their Site.

I had basically the same that happened to crazylegs happen to me once.

It worked all the other times, don't know what the malfunction was.

I have downloaded the newest drivers (1014)... but will check out the ASUS update tool on CD,
sounds like the safe bet for me

Typical guess i'm also 'some fcking people' ASUS update utility is being gay all over me...!

What should i do if i've downloaded the latest driver??? i have the 1014 revision saved on HD, its a bin file (image?) guess this is normal...? even when i use the asus update utility and tell it where to get the file from my HD it does not work....

Is there any 3rd party windows BIOS update software or should i manually update BIOS from a boot disk???

don't use asus update unless you absolutely have to. it's a good program to have, but it's always better to flash bios w/ floppy or cd in dos.

Do NOT update the BIOS through Windows. Use the floppy. People have had problems with BIOS adjustments after updating through windows.

I have to disagree with the recommendation to not use the windows BIOS update. I have updated my BIOS using this method (6 or 7 times) exclusively and never encountered an issue. I am currently running 1007 because I don't want to update the Nvidia drivers to 6.65 until I go dual core in 6 months.

When using the windows BIOS update I would however recommend downloading the bios file to your local machine first and then run the update. That way even if your internet connection drops out you wont be impacted.

Asus update has always worked well for me. But make sure the version is correct for the bios you want to flash. I think its 1011 and forward that require the newer version of Asus update.

I have been unable to update to 1014 from 1011. My Asus Update tool is broke and I can't even install a new one. Gives me some error about not detecing the board. I also tried via bios using awdflash and It tells me 1014 and 1013 HD FD checksum error.

1013 and forward require either the 6.65 or 6.66 nforce drivers be instralled prior to updating the bios

I have 6.66. That does not seems to be problem. Called Asus and they are sending me new BIOS chip.

Has anyone been using the NVIDIA PATA or SATA drivers for XP-32 and been able to update to 6.65? I want to update to BIOS 1015 in advance of buying an X2 but am concerned it will cause me to have to reinstall the OS to do so. Also I have a feeling I really have only one chance to get this right.

Currently my config is
2 x PATA (channel 0 master/channel 1 slave) on NVIDIA in RAID 1 for XP-32 OS
2 x SATA on NVIDIA in RAID 1 for data drives.

Aside from scaling back all my OC settings to defaults, any tips on how to proceed? BTW, I have downloaded the ASUS makedisk to create a floppy with the NVIDIA drivers.
