Asus a8n-e..

Okay, I'm stumped. My problem, in short, is that I can't seem to get my FSB any higher than ~250mhz no matter what. I'm running an Opteron 148 with the A8N-E. I have 2x1gb Geil PC3200.

Things I've tried:

CPU multiplier to 6, 10, 10.5, and 11
CPU voltage of 1.5
HTT multiplier to 3, 4, and 5
RAM to 400,333, and 266 mhz
RAM timings of 2-3-3-6, 3-4-4-8, and 3-7-7-15
RAM at 2t and 1t
RAM voltage of 2.9
Locking PCI to 33mhz
Locking PCI-e to 100mhz

I've tried fiddling both in BIOS and in Windows (clockgen and nTune). I was using BIOS 1008, now am using 1001. Asus Update won't install anymore, so I can't use that, either.

What gives? I know I should be able to get my FSB to ~300.

EDIT: W00T! Fixed my problem. Bad RAM. 🙂

I think my computer is running louder than usual. I'm not sure. I'm running on AMD64 3200+. Using Asus Probe, it says the CPU Temp is 36C & MB Temp is 39C. How does that sound? Do I have a bad NB fan? How can I tell if I have a bad one or not?

I have an odd question to throw out there... The PCI-E x4 Slot has no back and has that video card retention clip at the end. Can it run another PCI-E video card in it? I'm not trying to run SLI or anything fancy like that. I'm more interested if it would be possible to run a tri/quad monitor setup using the x4 slot.

I am also having a similar problem with my HTT locked at 4x. It seems this 4x is the default value and it is locked on my A8N-E for bios' 1006, 1008, and 1010-003. With bios 1004 and lower, I am able to manually adjust the HTT to any setting. I only flash my bios in DOS mode with AWDFLASH. I have reset bios default settings with the F5 key, saving, and rebooting, immediately after flashing the new bios. I have also attempted manually setting voltages higher than their default in the hopes this would give HTT control back to the bios.

Are u saying that u're not able to change the HTT multi at all or that a change to HTT 3 does not have any impact ? The following happened to me after I updated the BIOS a few months back ( Abt. 2~3 ) - Not sure which BIOS. ASUS Probe started showing the HTT at 920 when I set the FSB to 230 and multi to 3x. I was baffled. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling ASUS Probe - Same happened. I tried updateing ASUS Probe - No change. But when I used Everest Ultimate Edition, it showed the HTT at the correct 690 ( 230*3) and not 920 as reported by ASUS Probe. Not sure which to believe.

Hi friends. I'm spanish user, sorry for my english. That's my question: fan chipset in my Asus A8N-E spin at 5100-5300 rpm, QFAN and Cool n Quiet activated. I would like change it for a passive heatsink (Zalman NB47j, for example) but I don't have space, because Artic Cooling Ati Silencer blocks this possibility. These pics explain this issue:

Can Speedfan or similar software to regule fan chipset? Or a rheobus? What rheobus do you prefer? Any more solution?

Thank you for your reply. Bye

Hi, I use a cheap Zalman Fanmate II to reduce the chipset fan to 3000 rpm = silent.

Does anyone know if it is possible to attach an adapter to SPDIF inputs on the ASUS A8N-E board? Are there actually any pinouts onboard for this? The backpanel has an RCA and Optical SPDIF outputs but no inputs. If anyone knows please let me know. Thanks!

Why do i get errors when going over FSB 250 in Prime95 ... when at 249 it is no problem ... as soon as i go over 249 i get errors and / or it reverts to 1813.
I just found out about this.
BIOS is the latest beta but i had the same problem when i had the 1008 version.
Thanks.

PS:Also a few days ago my chip fan went dead ... i use a old CPU fan that blows air over the radiator now ... the temp is about 30-35 ... is this normal ???

The 1010.03 beta bios seems to fix a bug with x2s and vcore. Prior to this bios I was unable to reach any voltage between 1.4 and 1.5 regardless of what I set in the bios.. The problem drove me nuts, I hope this helps someone else. See this thread

Greetings,

I am seriously considering installing this board in my new system as I am in need of a socket 939 chipset and am not interested in SLi. However, I'm quite puzzled to see that there are very few reviews of it given its popularity. If anyone can post links to such reviews or can at least tell me how well it overclocks and whether or not it has compatiblity issues with certain RAM types I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you

Welcome to the forums Bxerkr. I've been using this board for the last 3 months or so. Overclocked really nicely for me. My Venice 3000+ has been running stock stable at 310x8.5...and I just got my ram replacements today and managed to run a memtest and boot into windows at 360FSB. I've had no issues with stability yet, but also haven't managed to breach the 2.7Ghz barrier...probably a combination of factors however.

And a question to anyone else in the thread. As mentioned above, I got some Plat Rev1's today, and have been seeing how well they will overclock. Memtest runs fine at 250 1:1 3-3-3-5, but the system won't even post at 240 1:1 2.5-7-7-12...is it an issue with the CAS2.5? Or is there something else going on that I haven't figured out. I'm running 2T command rate, 2.85v and the latest beta bios. Thanks for any assistance.

I've tried using A64 tweaker and the 183 memory divider, does anyone elses system crash when using it?

I was running 240x11 with 183divider then I rebooted and I could not get into windows?

Does this board not like 183?
cheers,

a.

Hello all A8N-E owners, those satisfied and those who are not lol, anyways why the hell is there only 1, yes only 1 review on this mother board!! :Q and dont think I'm the only guy who has wondered this 😕

So where was I...ohh overclocking the board, thanks to some very good info here I am running 300x8 2400 @1.425v multi @3 M/266 @2.7v FSB is 1200... very stable, only thing is temps can get into high 50's, so cooler upgrade is definatly where I'm heading now,
I prefer Blue Orb II over the Zalman design, just seems to b the better cooler all round from what i have read, and i do think the NBJ heat sink could do with some extra air, have seen 40C benchmarking, safe i know....but still 😱 I must say the wieght of the cooler does worry me slightly, should i b concerned?
ok, i think thats about it for now..

Beta bios 1010.x have been removed from support site.I wish they will finally release something to resolve every single problem and do not bring new ones.

Thats obnoxious that they would do that before they put up something to replace it. It fixed my vcore problems that 1008 did not.

Using A64 will not affect ur Memory speed during boot up. A64 affects the memroy speed only after u log into Windows and change the setting. I've been using the 183 divider for quite sometime now and have never experienced any issues.

I had a problem with a64 tweaker where it would work fine if I made the change after I started windows but if I set it to apply the settings on boot, windows would crash when trying to start a64tweaker.. I didn't investigate it any further because I not longer needed it.

There is a new beta bios version 1010.004 available at ASUS. Haven't tested it yet. I hope it will correct fluctuation of Vcore I have noticed with my AMD64 X2 3800+ (i'm using 1010.003 now).

Thanks for the heads up. Installed. Fine so far.

I just bought this board with a 3000 Venice.

I can't push the FSB above 221 (PATA HD fails to boot). (CPU Volts 1.50, Divider 333)

Anyone else having this problem\any fix?

I see that there is a 1010.004 beta bios out. Will this fix my problem? (Can't check right now, I'm at work).

Thanks guys, I'm so happy I stumbled upon this thread!

Strange - Just 221. Check if the floppy disk is enabled in the BIOS coz' disabling that causes some issues with OC'ing. Also set the HTT Multi to 4x manually. And why have u pumped so much volts already ? Go back to 1.40v and start giving more volts only if needed.
