this board's been available for quite a while and im sure a few members here have this mobo. so what's the verdict? is it stable? how does it perform? does 250 1T issue exist on this board? does the chipset die out with use like the a8n-sli?

Post your experiences/thoughts about this board.

My only thought about that boards is.....No firewire? What a bummer...
Other than that:

true. but that can easily be amended with a 20 dollar pci firewire card. still, i would rather have the a8n-premium though.

bump^.^.

it appears as if the 250 1T issue is going to be permanent on the a8n-sli deluxe.

but does that limitation appear on the a8n-e as well?

please respond, there's gotta be people with this board.

I think only 1 or 2 ppl on this bbs bought this mobo. Maybe the're having problems because they're not sharing much info.

I have the A8N-SLI Deluxe. It is running again after having the northbridge fan die on me. I installed a Zalman NB47J which is working nicely. I only have a 120mm case fan blowing across the heatsink as well as my video card's fan blowing on top of the heatsink. I am waiting for a 120mm Sunon 3100RPM fan that is coming in the mail that will replace the front intake fan and then I also have a Panaflo Ultra High Output 2750RPM fan that will act as my exhaust fan. From there, I should be ok.

Other than that, my video card is defective, one dvi port isn't working properly but I can use the other one just fine. I'm going to RMA it once I get my other video card back from RMA.

exactly.

perhaps the lack of firewire is the biggest turn off?

I built a computer for a friend using this mother board. I had problems at first, but that can go back to this being my first complete build.
I added a pci firewire card and wirless adapter.
I did not have alot of time to tweek it as I gave them the computer already.
In my newness I would say some of the glitches I had may have been from using low end muskin ram, as whenever I oc the ram I had problems, even after uping the voltage.
All in all I do like the features in the bios, and the motherboard in general. If I was to rebuild this computer the only thing I would have done differently would be to step it up one notch on the ram, if anything just so I could rule the ram out in any stability problems due to oc.
I did not find the south bridge fan to be all that loud.

I just got this in today from the egg. I haven't even hooked it up yet but Im already impressed just looking at it. The layout on this board is very nice. Everything is in the right spot and I can't forsee any conflicts with wires or capacitors. Also they give you 2 sata cables and a whole bunch of extras. Its a nice package. Ill report back once I get it up.

I just found this thread! Don't spend a lot of time in the motherboard forum, or on A/T now that the weather is shaping up again.

I've now built 3 systems with the A8N-E, one I kept and two for friends wanting to move to A64 with 64 bit XP coming very soon.

My expiereince has been wonderful! The boards were all breezes to setup. Very stable and nice features. I don't mind the lack of firewire, neither did the people I built the other 2 rigs for.

I also have the DFI Ultra board, and while that board is full of bells and whistles, my benchmarks and overclocks have been nearly equal between the two. I have not had my board, with the new 1003e_04 bios have any of the 1T issues.

Overall, very happy with these boards and would definately recommend them to the non-SLI crowd for reliability, stabilty and overclockability. (did I just sound like the late Johnny C.??? LOL!) I'll try to look back on this thread the next few days if anyone has any questions....:)

Yes. Doesn't appear the non-SLI boards suffer the same problem. I'm running Corsair XMS ELL 2-2-2-5 ram and relax the settings a little, but stay with 1T and no problems.

Are you running a memory divider ?

What about compatablity w/ a SBLive or Audigy2 ZS ?

EndGame,

What's your OC'd settings ? cpu, HTT, fsb, mem ratio etc.

So your saying you can go over 250fsb at 1T w/ a 1:1 (ddr400) mem ratio , correct ?

What is your sys. config ? cpu, mem, hd (sata) etc.

Regards,
Jose

I was planning to get this mobo also but I heard there's a premium version so I'm still waiting if it's really true. Even though I don't own one A8N-E, I'm pretty sure this is a rocksolid mobo since you don't see anybody asking for a solution to a problem. Maybe, a few poeple own it and then their eyes and hands got stuck on the new SLI mobos or the tweackable DFI Ultra-D and and didn't have the chance to give a review that their A8N-E was a good mobo.

Sorry Jose.......didn't see the thread back up so didn't think anyone relpied.

I can do 260 X 10 1T no sweat and probably higher.....just haven't had the urge to mess with it. I'm happy now! LOL!

System:

A8N-E
Seasonic 500W
A64 3200+
XP 90
2X SATA Seagate 200GB
NEC 3250A EIDE
Pioneer DVD-ROM EIDE
ATI X800XL W/ATI Silencer
Antec Sonata
2X 120mm Cooling
Creative SB Audigy 2 Plat.
USB Mouse & Keyboard

Oh, and Corn.......from everything I've read lately......the Premium is a pipe dream....I know....I wanted and waited awhile too, but finally said the heck with it and glad I did!:)

I intend to purchase this mobo, with an AMD Athlon 4000+ w/ OCZ EL DDR PC-4800 Dual Channel Platinum. Of course I will overclock it, but do not known what will be the max fsb of the cpu. Also, I've took a look in the A8N-E manual, and there's a Qualified vendor list, for DIMM modules. There's no OCZ, and they said the board does not support double sided memory modules. As you can see, I'm a little lost!

here's some question to help me:

1- What is the max speed of a 4000+ ? do you think he can support 300fsb ?

2- Do you think thses DIMM are compatible with the board? Cuz the user manual lost me completely!

3- What liquid cooling kit would you recommend?

4- Would you want to answer my question? :p

One thing that you should never do is mix electronics with water, just make sure you have a case with a good air flow and grab yourself a zalman CPU cooler and youll be fine, get some case fans if needed also. Water is to risky to use, so to save you ever having to fork out money for your fried mob stick to air cooling.
my specs are as follows

CPU- AMD ATHLON 64 4000+
Mother Board- ASUS A8N-E nFORCE 4 ULTRA
Ram-GeIL Value Dual Channel PC3200 400MHz 2 X 2GB Dual Channel DDR Kits
Hard Drive- Seagate Baracuda 250GB
Graphics Card- ASUS GF6800GT 256MB DDR3 AGP8X
Case- Aspire X-Dreamer Metal Case w/ Side Window-Black
Power Supply- OCZ POWERSTREAM 600W
CPU Cooling- Zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu LED
Vid Cooling- Zalman VF700-Cu

the current temp my that i get in my case is under 20 dc with 3 80mm fans
2 front, 1 above, 1 120mm fan at rear.

BTW the a8n-e is the best mob i have ever purchased i have no complains it is the most stable mob i have ever used out of my 6 computers. top notch mob

Ok, but I want to overclock it, it'll have higher temps than at the default settings. I intend to use a ANtec Sonata case, because I want a quiet PC. I actually have a Barton 2500+ @ 3000+, on an Antec Performance II, with 5x 80mm fans, 1x Vantec aeroflow, and it is so noisy.... oh yeah i do have a western digital 200 gig, that's create a lot of noise also.....

So if i overclock, want a good temp, ans a quiet pc, i'll need a liquid cooling system. With fans, it'll just create more noise... I've purchased the Vantec Aeroflow because it's 5600rpm and sooo quiet! But there's no Aeroflow for socket 939 yet. :(

muhahaahahaha, who cares ? divider or no, it's the same performance at fsb and even 300 fsb. get ram with low latency, but forget about overclocking it as it won't make any noticeable difference whatsoever.....
