ASUS A7V8X problems - please help!

Hi everyone:

I bought a new AMD XP 2400+ CPU & ASUS A7V8X mobo yesterday and upgraded my pc.....and since then everything has been crazy! First of all, I had to reformat my C drive and install WIN 2K (which went OK), but when I tried to upgrade to to XP Pro - it wouldn't let me..kept rebooting and freezing up during the installation process.

Anyways - reformatted again and installed XP Pro today. It's quite stable for now except that I cannot install any AGP drivers for my NVIDIA GEFORCE4 MX 440 card! No matter which version of the drivers (incl. the new Detonator ones) I install, my system goes haywire and keeps rebooting itself. I checked the IRQ's and did a bunch of re-installations but no luck....also I cannot get any updates for XP from the MSFT updates website....

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My system specs are -

Athlon XP 2400+
ASUS A7V8X Mobo
300W AMD recomendded PSU
NVIDIA GEFORCE4 MX 440
512 MB 266 mhz DDR RAM

Have you tried installing the Nvidia nForce2 drivers and then your video card drivers? I am not sure if this is necessary, but try it. Is that a legal version of XP? I don't think you can access the Windows Update for illegal versions and beta builds anymore.
