I've heard some pretty good things about anything that's a refurb from Newegg. If the board doesn't work just send it back and they'll give you a refund - less the shipping back to them.

Edit: btw, 47 in stock at 8:17pm CST

Bought 2 Gigabyte 7VTXE+ refurbs from newegg. Both for $39 shipped. One came just the board. Second one came in a different mobo box but with the manual, and it was missing the little battery. Both have been working great for last few months.

And like Yzzim said, if it doesn't work, you have 30 days to send it back. All it will cost you is the shipping...

I'm guessing that some will and some won't.

I bought a supposedly bare card ATI Radeon 8500DV and got everything except the box with it.

Actually, when I ordered a refurb motherboard from them and it turned out to be bad, when I requested the RMA I asked the associate about getting a refund on the shipping back to them. She told me to just fax them a copy of the receipt of my shipping charges and they'd refund up to $10. I originally ordered the MSI K7N415 Pro. Had all kinds of little niggling problems with it. Shipped that back, ordered a Shuttle AK31A after the refund posted for the MSI board. Couldn't be happier with the Shuttle. Worked perfect since the first boot!

thanks for the info everyone, i have another question. Would you recommend the ASUS or should i get the new MSI KT3 ultra2 with the new southbridge? its about the same price for the new MSI as the refurb Asus, what are the major differences between the two southbridge chips? thanks:confused:

just FYI - i bought the ASUS a7v333 refurb from newegg, and it was DOA :( from what i've seen here, though, there seem to be at least as many posts of successful refurbs as there are DOAs... so trying a refurb deal is probably worth the risk if you don't need the part immediately and can spare a couple of weeks for shipping/exchanges etc.

kyu614 - as for the new southbridge, i think it has usb2.0 built in, as opposed to usb1.1 in the old one. not sure about any other upgrades in the new southbridge. even though it has the old southbridge, the ASUS has usb2.0 support from an external VIA chip. anyway, as a replacement for the DOA a7v333, i picked up an msi kt3-ultra (the older one), which has been working fine - but i have heard (from the folks at mushkin) that it is picky with respect to memory - i have not encountered any problems. another issue with the msi board is that the bios is AMI, not award, which some people find more annoying to work with. once again, I haven't had any problems.

I had picked one of these up a while back and since it is just supposed to be the bare board they didn't even include the little header so you can use the firewire. It got sent back. That is taking cheap a little too far. I will say that newegg has one of the best rma departments I've ever dealt with.

I just bought a P4S533 refurb but haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

It came as a bare board in a plain generic box. (no manuals, drivers, USB H/W, cables, etc)

Does anyone know what an Asus refurb really is? Is it really a board that's been returned and fixed or could it be surplus bulk OEM stock?

I see no signs that my board's been refurbed by soldering or special labels, etc.

Does Asus put refurbs thru the same outgoing test as new boards?

Anyone have any inside info?

Probably didn't even include the firewire chip as this version is firewireless! Careful reading, not so much.

The board does come with firewire, I've had the full version previously and it is there, just not listed on the newegg site.

The A7V333 incorporates VIA® KT333 chipset to support AMD® socket A processors and high-bandwidth PC2700 DDR (double data rate) memory. Loaded with additional features such as ATA133 RAID, USB 2.0 and 1394 ports, 6-channel hardware audio, as well as innovative ASUS thermal protection technologies, the A7V333 delivers optimum performance and value.

Dang... it's $127 now.

Don't think I will spend that much money on a refurbished board, not knowing how many times I will have to send it back. Had enough trouble with a brand new ASUS board.

I see that is back to $127...this is the price for the new edition of the board, so I'm wondering if there is some sort of mix up. I'd be seriously interested in this board, refurb or not @ $69!

vk8 again with the careful reading not so much! The description matched(s) the board that they are selling at the refurb price. You expected to get the firewire version, even though it doesn't say it on the site. This $69 board does not come with firewire, not the chip, not the bracket, not even firewire smell. It also doesn't come with RAID. There are versions w/o onboard audio. This board has onboard audio, as per the description.

ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socka/kt333/a7v333/e1010_a7v333.pdf

Page 20 Optional components are grayed in the above motherboard layout.

USB 2, firewire, raid, sound are all options. The $69 board has usb2 and sound.

Anyways, I just got mine and it's a bare board, no extras at all. I'm hoping that I'll be running this and an aroia 1600+ at 166mhz. Since the PCI divider will go to 1/5 it should be stable for music apps.

I think it's a good price for a KT333 board with 1/5 PCI divider, I'm really happy with the SIS745 ECS board as well, but don't have experience at 166 bus speeds.
