on the motherboard with the raid option. can i make the raid turn into regular ide connectors( if so how do i do that). i have a cdrom, cdrw, and a hard drive and want each on their own ide connectors so they can go faster instead of having them with slaves etc.

You can turn those RAID channels to ordinary ATA100 channels. There will be a jumper where you'll be able to switch in between RAID or ATA100.

yes you can make it a plain ata controller

check your manual for how, either there will be a jumper on the board itself that needs to be moved, or you will change it in bios

make sure you put the harddrive on the raid controller (since it doesnt support other ide devices)

cant i put the cdrw on the newly switched raid slots. i want to put the harddrive on the orginal ide 1 slot. then the cdrom, and then last put the cdrw on the newly switched raid slot

ATAPI devices DO work on the Promise controller set up as a regular ATA100 controller.
I'm running 2 harddrives and a Kenwood 72x TrueX cd-rom off the Promise controller, and 1 harddrive and my cd-rw+dvd-rom off the standard ide controller.
