Your call. I've got the Abit and I love it. The Asus is more popular. Most people will tell you Abit for speed and Asus for stability, but I think they're pretty similar.

The controllers differ; ABIT has the Highpoint HPT370 while ASUS offers the Promise Fasttrak 100 Lite. The Highpoint controller has more features, from what I hear, like adjustable stripe sizes.

I would go with the Asus for two reasons:

The Asus uses a Promise controller and the Abit uses a Highpoint (I believe), and I've heard that Promise controllers are geneally more reliable.

Recently, I've heard too many horror stories about the quality of Abit products.

My roomate had the kt7 and had all kinds of problems with it under win2k, I had the asus a7v133, he sent the abit back and got the asus and hasn't had any problems since then. I prefer the ASUS.

Yeah, I chose Asus too, just because I heard too many Abit horror stories.

Jex, just trying to help as many people as I can. Nothing wrong with that.

I think Abit's motherboard problems....
has to do with quality control.

I really like their boards, but had to return an Lx6 ,and a kt7a just
recently. but the replacement board i received for the Kt7a is as stable as a rock.

Tha FAQ's at the abit site should be read carefully.
ther's som incompatibility with soundblaster lve 3.0 and some 3dfx
video card drivers

well, on my kt7 -r (kt133) the hpt370 controller sucks bigtime. no matter which bios or drivers in any combination, i get freeze ups in any OS. especially from transfering files from one HDD to another. now that i formatted and reinstalled winxp 2462 on the via controller and not installed any other drivers for the via, it has been running rock solid for a week now. not one freeze up, slow down, or even blink of weirdness. so i think my troubles were from the hpt370. i have read in many forums that highpoint doesnt make the best of products so im staying away from anything to do with highpoint at all costs. i just purchased an Iwill kk266-r with the ami controller on it and we'll see how stable that is. from what i have read and heard from a few friends, it is a very stable board. i can only hope.
