Got the king kong kooler coming in the mail soon. Checked Swiftech's website, and it says to use the shoulder washer if the holes are NOT grounded. How the hell can I tell? The holes around the socket have metal rings around em... does this help? Is it really as simple as "if the washer fits, use it"?

those holes should be grounded. check on the mobo and see if there are traces (or if you have a continuity tester) going to ground. The reason to use spacers would be to prevent any posible short in the even the screw might tough any leads (which it really shouldn't).

oh well if you can see little 'connections' coming off of those holes then it probably is grounded. traces are those thin lines that make the connections on a PCB.
