Asus A7V "shutdown" problem

I just put together a Duron system using an A7V. The system works fine using an IDE harddrive, when I install my SCSI drives (no IDE drives) I cannot power the system down. It blanks the screen and does nothing more. Does anyone have a clue as to what might be the problem here, the SCSI controller is an Adaptec 2940UW with 2 LVD drives running in SE mode. The setup works fine on my PIII and is running a new install of win me with the newest via drivers.

Yes the IDE controller and ATA/100 controller are both disabled (using bios 1004c). I even tried removing all other cards (sound, ethernet, etc), the board just doesn't like SCSI, I guess :frown: .

:cool:To Laz,

I was having the same problem, so I checked out Microsoft?s KB articles. The fix seems
to be unchecking , Disable Fast Shutdown, option . ACPI will not work properly with
this option selected. I have not had anymore shutdown problems.

Start/Accessories/Systems Tools/System Information then Tools/System Configuration/Advanced and it should be there. Make sure that you have bios 1004c and Via's 4in1 ver. 4.24 drivers. I disabled looking for Symbios Scsi, but I use my IDE for LS120 and 1Gb Syquest drives only so I do have IDE enabled. I have an Initio 9100UW with 9.1 Gb UW and Narrow Cdrom, CDR and Scsi Tape. Unfortunatey I'm using ME currently. Good luck!

I'm running ME as well and it's not there, but I resolved the issue in case anyone is interested, It turns out to be an IRQ issue with the ethernet card (go figure, I was online with it even with the problem). I manually set my IRQ's for all PCI cards and it seems fine now. This has to be the worst MB for IRQ's that I have ever encountered. Thanks for the reply anyway.

I just placed the nic in another PCI slot, there is not much you can do about certain slots sharing IRQ's with other devices. Some things are able to share IRQ's better than others. I don't use the ATA 100 controller (have SCSI), but I can't seem to disable it's use of an IRQ, but my SCSI card doesn't seem to mind sharing with it. Good Luck!
