I just re-installed Win98 SE on my 900mhz Duron box. Flashed the bios on my A7V and dloaded the latest drivers for everything. I dloaded the most current beta drivers for my Radeon 32mb DDR. I also dloaded ATI'd DVD Player 4.1 and installed that. I seem to be having quite a few problems. One of which I know is a hardware problem:
Everytime I check the DMA box for my Toshiba SD-M1202 DVD player (under properties in the device manager), as soon as I reboot the computer it comes back unchecked. When I go to my Asus A7V bios page, and select the DVD player, it says DMA Mode DISABLED. For the life of me I can't get it to enable DMA mode. If its set at Auto Detect, it automatically disables it. Should I go to an older version of the BIOS (I just flashed 1009) or something? If DMA mode is not enabled on the DVD-rom drive, DVD playback is choppy at best - it sucks! I really wish I could figure this out. I've tried manually setting a DMA mode for the Toshiba to no avail. I've tried switching from master to secondary - no luck. I even tried manaully setting it as a CD-Rom and 'Other ATAPI device' w/ DMA enabled - won't recognize the drive. I know I've enabled DMA w/ this Toshiba DVD on this board in the past - in fact, my roomate has the same player on a BH6 and DMA works fine! Why I can't I get it to work?
Any advice would be greatly apprecaited.
