I bought this board and put it in a 300w case. It has a 600mhz duron which I intended to overclock but as of yet is untouched. It has one stick 128mb pc133 micron ram. I was able to get it running and install winme.

1) On boot up the computer hangs for about 1min as it tries to detect ata 100 devices which i dont have. Can this be bypassed?

2) Once the computer is running everything seems good for anywhere from 3-10min then it will just shut down. I have heard this could be due to overheating. I am currently using the just the stock fan and heatsink. Has anyone had this problem and know how to fix it?

One time when it shutdown out of about 20 it booted into the bios and said that basicly the boot failed on the previous attempt because my processor speed was set incorrectly.

You can avoid waiting for the ATA100 BIOS to find drives if you have a recent BIOS. I believe anything from 1004a on has an option to not detect ATA100 devices.

As to the shutdown problem, have you installed AsusProbe? What are your board and CPU temperatures like? (You can also access this information from the BIOS.)

I'm not an authority, but first I'd reseat my RAM and all my cards, being particularly careful with the AGP video card. Those things can really be pesky Then if that didn't help I'd try swapping out components one at a time, starting with the RAM & moving on to the cards (if I happened to have a big pile of spare parts lying around). I once had a NIC that prevented me from even POSTing about one time in 4. I'd swapped out the power supply, CPU & RAM, but still had the problem. Then I changed the Linksys NIC for a Netgear card and the problem went away. A tech said some cheap cards use low quality capacitors that can cause random weirdness.

Thanks for the advice, Ill upgrade the bios tomorrow. Right now the computer has only ram and video card so Ill try swapping them out and see what happens.

Any other info will be appreciated.

thanks niccolt that was helpful. I didnt get a temp censor with my a7v. Do you know if later models have it premounted or something? I get two temp readings from the board with motherboard monitor.
