ASUS A7V-133 Wrong Chip?

On Boot up on the botton of the screen it says kt133, not kt133A
could it be that they put the wrong chipsent in the motherboard?
also when i try to flash bios it says that i cannot flash the bios because the image does not match the ROM bios.
 
i have the same problem as you. So I take out the heat sink and the chip is indeed a KT13A chip.

I believe Asus load the wrong Bios in the factory.

I already flash it with 1004.awd in DOS mode. No problems found.

I suggest you download the aflash from Asus website.
 
Alrite.. there's no need to start up another topic about this, Do Not Try To Flash Your BIOS Within Windows, Using the Update Utility, goto Asus.com download AFlash.exe, the proper BIOS and follow the instructions, Flash Your BIOS From DOS. The chance of Asus putting in the wrong chip is extremely low, because it would not boot if they used the factory default KT133A BIOS on the chip. However, it's possible that Asus forgot a simple "A" when writing the BIOS. So, just go flash your BIOS from DOS, and it will work out. Make sure aflash.exe is the latest release. Sorry if this is sounding cruel in anyway, but I read your other posts, and there was no need to start this one.

Also, if you're still not sure, take off the HSF off the chipset like 9lives did and check for yourself.

Thanks a lot for advice..Going to flash my bios later today and post about the results. Gonna do it from DOS.

While on the subject of Flashing the bios within windows using the flash utility, why don't you recommend it? Second issue, I flashed my bios last night, but didn't save the old one. Where can I find Bios 1005 for the A7V board. I think it's dayed 01/08/2001. Thanks
 
Well, I don't have any experience but severak members including me have fried the bios chip with MSI's Live Bios, which is a program that let you flash bios via online on Windows. But some people are using this program w/o any problem also. Many people just think flashing old fashioned way is safer.

How different is this Asus bios utility from MSI's Live Bios?
 
No...that's OK....it's normal. ASUS leaves off the letters at the end of a chipset name designation. All of the A7V-133s I have seen leave the A off the end; the CUSL2 displays i815, not i815E; same with the CUSL2-C: still i815 and not i815EP.
 
Alright i flashed bios from DOS.
Everything works just fine now and even the chipset name is displayed right.

I don't recommend flashing from Windows because the flashing program can crash, since many applications are running behind it, explorer.exe systray... etc.. etc... There's possibilities that some programs running behind the flasher may conflict or crash, halting the flash, in turn killing your motherboard. When in DOS (with a bootdisk) you're in an environment that is free of other software (but that's depandent on the bookdisk) This offers a much more secure means of flashing the BIOS, the same goes with firmware on CD/DVD drives. I always do everything through DOS.

AHHH!! Now I understand, and it makes sence. From now on, only DOS flashes. Where can I find an old bios, ver 1005 for the A7V. Any help?
