Asus a7pro problem-not finding cdrw

A friend has a asus a7pro and it will not reconise a yamaha 16x burner when it`s hooked up.It has a 52x cd rom and a toshiba dvd in it,and when the yamaha is hooked up,sometimes it will show up in the bios but never in windows ME.Changed the ide cables,changed the jumpers from master to slave to CL to takeing it off.When it`s hooked up ,the drive it`s hooked up with will not show up in windows either.It runs perfect in my machine.Any ideas?

Found the problem(duh).My son installed it and plugged the ide cable in upside down(it didn`t have the little notch on it)and pushed a pin in.Took some needlenose pliers and pulled the pin out and it works fine.
