Asus A7n8x-e no keyboard found error

I am having this weird problem with my Asus a7n8x-e motherboard sometimes when I startup it says no keyboard found.

I am using a KVM and it is switched to that computer. When I plug in the USB keyboard to the back of the computer and start it back up it says the same thing.

Once I plug in a PS/2 keyboard during the boot and then take it out I am successful at using my usb keyboard on the KVM.

What could be the cause of this? I am using the Bios version 1007 which came with the motherboard itself.

Thanks

you could get a usb to ps2 adapter for your keyboard. You might also search the "peripherals" section of the forum to see if ayone else has had this problem.

Well that is not the point....... It does not explain why the motherboard with a USB keyboard plugged in to the usb port in back would say no keyboard found all of a sudden.

Could it be a bug in the bios?

Just read that post. Sounds a little incomplete. So just to clarify, I was talking about in the bios.

I actually do have legacy enabled in the bios. I even tried using a ps/2 to usb adapter on one of my other keyboards to see if it was a keyboard issue and it isn't.

The audio post says "No Keyboard Detected" when I have the problem.

I've been looking around, and it seems alot of ppl are having this problem. Unfortunately, I haven't found a satisfactory answer to the problem :( I did notice however there are some newer bios versions than yours. (think it's up to 1013) I would try that first. I'll keep looking though to see if anyone else has been able to solve this.

Thanks a lot joelslaw for looking into this for me. I mean the board isn't bad at all I like it quite a bit but to have this problem of usb keyboard not working when connected straight into the motherboard itself while trying different usb ports. The only solution I found is to plug in a PS/2 keyboard while having the USB one in and then start the OS, turn off the computer and disconnect the PS/2 keyboard and then the USB keyboard works.

wth? I'm stumped :( Does this happen on all usb ports or just the 1? Your board comes with a bracket that has extra usb's, right? Have you tried it on those? You might try contacting asus and see what they say. Also I'd make one last pass through the bios, and make sure there aren't any other usb options you may have missed.

This is just a crazy idea, but if you leave just the usb to ps/2 adapter pluged in (with no keyboard attached) and then use a usb, does it boot.

Well the thing is it does boot. I have tried all the USB ports and they are "dead". There are no other usb options I have it set at USB 1.1+2.0 with Legacy enabled.

I put Halt on All Errors except keyboard so I know that it will start but the only way I can fool the motherboard is having a PS2 keyboard in there while working with the USB one until I shut down.

I did email Asus yesterday with the problem and haven't heard back from them yet. I guess it must be a stumper to them as well.

I'm more anxious to hear a response from them already. It has been a day and a half and nothing back........ Guess they are stumped or their email requests take more than 48hrs to respond to.
