The controller appears to be working correctly as far as I can tell... I see the controller in the (latest) BIOS and in Windows 2000 (I am booting from a SCSI HD)... When I connect the 300GB Seagate HD I have to the secondary master (the only good header), I see the drive in the BIOS but the computer hangs when booting into Windows or DOS...

Does anybody have any idea what I can try?

Thanks.

Do you have drivers for windows 2000? Its not a standard HD controller so you probably need drivers. I think SATA came out in popular use after windows 2000. I just switched to it in windows XP and did not experience any real issues with that. same MB but a WD HD.

Thanks dnoyeb....
Yes, I have the W2k SATA drivers installed and the controller appears to work properly without HD connected.

Once I connect a HD, I cannot boot into Windows or DOS at all.

Nice catch, man.. yeah, the II/300 HD's jumper needs to be set for I/150 and it is. It was working before I RMA'd the MB for a different reason. I have tried two other HDs besides the one installed, comp will not boot into DOS or Windows with any of them...

BTW, the sata controller is a Silicon Image 3112A, BIOS v4.2.47

I have ordered a cheap PCI sata controller bc this is a water cooled system and I just do not feel like pulling the MB out again for RMAing :( But I would still love to figure this thing out, although I am starting to sense that Asus may have sent my a cursed board.
