ASUS A7N8X Deluxe OR ABIT NF7-S

I am considering both, as they seem comparable. It will be pared with a retail Barton 2500+ which I will be overclocking ONLY WITH A STANDARD HS/FAN (I can't stand the sound of my Delta Black label anymore).

I can get the Refurb ASUS at newegg for 69$ + 20$ for accessories (so I have everything) + $20 for the PATA/SATA converter ($110) OR buy the new ABIT NF7-S at Newegg for 115$

$5 is not a big deal to me, and I am not afraid of refurbs. Which is a better board?

I need an answer quick, as I need to order today. My old motherboard got screwed during the recent power fiasco.

I have the Asus A7N8X Deluxe and it's just great. Lots of features and good performance and overclockability.

Edit: Wichever you buy make sure is v2.0 .

I am seriously leaning towards the new NF7-S because I have no need for an extra LAN (I have my 3Com if I need it) and I think 4 USB is enough for me. Am I missing an extra advantage of the ASUS?

hehe as much as I'd love to, it is 40$ more. I am a starving med student who can't afford this as it stands. Is the NFII REALLY that much better? (30% more costly...)

No. Just cool looks and nice performance, but not better than the others.

I overclocked a A7N8X Deluxe and XP2500+ to XP3000+ (400MHz FSB, 2.1GHz) using stock cooling and voltage. Completely stable running Prime95 loops.

I've had em both and can say the Asus has a better board layout. Though I like the Abit I have now cause it's a Rev. 2 and can actually go higher than 190fsb, unlike my 1.04 Asus. Also, if your not interested in SATA get the non-deluxe version of either board to save money. Unless you use the digital out, you will not be getting Soundstorm quality audio out of the analog, so that is something else to consider.

Thank you all for your input. I decided to go with the NF7-S. I am disappointed about lack of gamepot, but maybe its about time I got a new flight stick... my old 2 axis (with throttle!) 4 button one is kinda played out.

I'm in love with my A7N8X deluxe, I have so much trouble faulting it. Its nice getting it, because you get a lot of community support and the infamous uber bios's. The abit and DFI ones are excellent as well. Really, they are all excellent, just pick the one that best suits your needs.

i just returned an asus a7n8x 2.0 delux because it wouldn't hold 400fsb stable
i then ordered an abit nf7-s 2.0 and will get it on wednesday

i have heard only good things about this board from people on these forums
i am still crossing my fingers tho

also i returned a dfi lanparty nf2 ultra 400 board because it stopped turning on
it didn't reach 400 stable either

good luck hope this helps
