ASUS A7N8X Deluxe BIOS flashing nightmare

After I upgraded to the final BIOS, v1008, comp will successfully boot into W2K Pro perhaps one out of five tries.. at other times it hangs at the Windows splash screen...

If I try to do a fresh install, I get a BSOD after hitting enter to choose new install option. As soon as Set-up starts scanning for HDs to install to, I get the BSOD. I have tried removing all PCI cards, leaving just a PATA HD but I get the BSOD everytime.

I am able to successfully boot into DOS every time, btw.

I have rolled BIOS back to v1007 but the same issues persist.

Does anyone have any ideas for solving this most annoying problem??

Dunno, I still use 1007. What are the changes in 1008? If they are worthwhile maybe I'll give it a try and see if I have any problems.

Thanks for the responses.

11427: ASUStek says 1008 introduces Sempron support.

Wobble: I get the BSOD when I attempt a fresh install of W2K SP4. Each time I have attempted the install, the BSOD comes at the same time: during Set-up's scan for available HD's...

The BSOD message is always the same... it says something about if my BIOS is cachable, be sure to disable caching or shadowing, which I have done... I do not remember all of what it said, I will do another install and edit my post now.
