Asus A7N266-VM AA Beeping Alarm continuous

Can anyone tell me what they think is the problem with my Asus A7N266-VM AA motherboard? I just put the system together and when I turn it on for the first time, it won't boot I just hear a continuous alarm that sounds like a British fire truck! The motherboard book says that a beep in a loop indicates that there is no RAM installed. I took my Crucial PC2100 256mb stick out and put it in another machine and it works fine. I disconnected all my drive cables and pulled my modem pci card out and it still gives me the problem. I tried it with the RAM out of the board to see if the tone of the alarm would change but it is the same. I am thinking the board must be bad. Please, any thoughts?

Make sure your CPU fan is connected to the correct pins, double check everthing again.

Try to boot it up with just the RAM, Heatsink, CPU, and Hardrive to see if you can get it to stop beeping. Make sure your jumpers are set right on the HD, and all cables and connections are secure.

You know that the settings for the CPU/MEMORY are screwed up in the manual
and that there's an update on the ASUS web site, don't you???

and to clear the CMOS, you have to use the solder pads on the motherboard, there are no pins to use

I had an Abit BM6 and when the case temperature got real hot when my one big 92mm case fan failed and my PSU fan couldn't keep enough air going, the thing started beeping like the british police siren and I came upstairs one day to find it doing this. I think the high temperature is what killed a 3dfx Voodoo3 2000 which died a short time later. I know it was thermal issues because when I replaced the sleeve-bearing fan with a nice shiny new ball-bearing SUNON 92mm fan, it would work, but the Voodoo3 only worked for a while longer before it finally just crapped out on me altogether.

I double checked all of my connections and even try to start it without all of my cables connected. I check to make sure the cpu fan is connected correctly and it does spin the fan good. I know it isn't overheating because the siren comes on a few seconds after I turn the computer on. The monitor never even turns from orange to green so it isn't making an attempt to boot. I think my motherboard is bad. I am sending it back. I will let you know what happens when I get a replacement.

I have heard of many problems with the A7N266-VM board. I would say go to google and search for 'asus a7n266-vm motherboard problems'. I did this when I was considering buying that board; most of the problems people had were able to be resolved.

I have 20 A7N266-VM's at work and they're about as trouble-free as it gets. I think I'll build next fiscal years' systems on them too, unless Asus manages to pull a similar nForce2 IGP board out of their hat for under $110 or so.

Well, I sent the A7N266-VM motherboard back and received the replacement. It works BUT, after installing Win XP Pro and drivers and getting the machine all set up, it works good until it runs for a few hours unattended then it locks up. It looks like it is in some type of suspend mode. The screen is black but the monitor is still active, the power light is still green not orange. The computer is still running but there is no hard drive light showing any activity. All the fans are still running. You would think that I could move the mouse or hit a key and it would come back to life but nothing works. HELP!!!! HELLLLLPPPP!!!! I can hold the power button down for more than four seconds and it turns off (ctrl alt del doesn't do anything when it is in this state) and then I can turn it back on fine but then it does the same thing after several hours. I have 2 different computers with the same A7N266-VM board and ram and they are both doing the same thing so I think it must be a bios setting but what? I haven't changed any of the default settings in bios.

I looked at the power management bios screen and it appears that they are. Could you please tell me exactly how it should look when all suspend modes are disabled? The book isn't very clear on it and the screen doesn't have simple disabled or enabled like you would think it should have. Thanks.

Absolutely! That is the first thing that I always fix after installing Win98/2000/XP. The only thing that I can think may be causing me a problem is I am running on both of these machines, MS Plus and I am running the Aquairium screen saver at the time of the lock ups. I wonder if the video card just can't handle it for a sustained peroid of time...... I will turn the screen saver off and run it like that tonight and see if it still happens.

I figured out the problem. It is the Aquarium screen saver that comes with Microsoft Plus! for XP. I went to http://www.serenescreen.com/ and looked at the tech support page and the user forum page and found that your video card better be a strong one to run the aquarium screen saver. Obviously, this boards onboard gforce2 mx like video can't manage it successfully for very long.

Well, I have had this board for a month or so now and I thought that I had the freeze up problem solved by just not running the aquirium screen saver BUT, I do still have the same problem. After several hours (running over night or just for 4 or 5 hours and coming back to the computer) the computer will just freeze up and there will be a black screen on the monitor. I have never had this kind of problem and I built 2 of these machines at the same time using the same AMD 1700+ chips (one was green the other was brown) and same PC2100 Crucial 256mb RAM, 20gig WD HD using the onboard video/lan/sound. I can't believe that I have 2 machines doing the same thing and nobody else out there hasn't had the same problem with this board. HELPPPPP!!!!

I do have a very similar system to you but unfortunately I never have cause
to keep it on that long. I have the A7N266-VM AA MB, 256Meg Kingston RAM,
XP1800+ and an Antec case with Antec 350w PS..............Greg

A7N266-VM, XP1700+ B, 512mb Crucial PC2700. System runs 12 to 14 hours a day without a hitch.

CPU Temp 36c idle / 39c loaded. Case temp 33 idle / 36 loaded.

Oh, running Win2k. :)

I hate glitches with a passion and wouldn't tolerate a system that hangs for any reason. :(
