I'm sooo tired. I've gone through 3 OS's, almost every single driver for both my vidcard and my mobo, and my problem is still not fixed. I started with Windows 98, moved on to ME, then eventually stopped on Win2k. My problem is always the same...my computer will just freeze during a 3D application (3Dmark2001, CS). I've tried the nvidia drivers (1101), the hercules drivers, the via 4-in-1 chipset drivers, the via agp drivers, etc...

Here are detailed specs of my system.
- Asus A7M266 Motherboard w/audio disabled
- 256MB PC-2100 Corsair DDR RAM
- Hercules 3D Prophet II MX
- Soundblaster Live! Value
- Linksys LNE100TX NIC

Does anybody have any solutions? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I think maybe the vidcard is overheating...because all it comes with is a heatsink, but my computer temp inside is pretty cold.

PS-On my mobo manual it says "AMD 760 Chipset", but on the Driver CD it says "AMD 761 Chipset" is this a typo?

hmmm... sounds like a problem..
There is no need to install the via 4in1 drivers because the motherboard has the AMD-761 chipset- the amd-760 northbridge and the amd-766 southbridge as i understand it, so that is not an error on your manual. so, try uninstalling the via drivers that you have installed

Download powerstrip
go to options/graphics/windows/details and drop AGP to 1X (or 2X if its in 4X)
make sure both PCI textures (D3D and OGL) in nvidia advanced properties are at min: 1mb and 2mb
change monitor timing to GMT or DMT (whichever works)

read me

Edit: And dont put 248 clicks bus hog SBlive in PCI slot 1

Yeah, that fixed it alright...but now I only get like 60fps in CS, but before (unstable) I got 100fps. What's the deal with that?

There is an option under the Enable AGP 4X. I belive it says enable or bypass. If you want AGP 4X set this to bypass.
