Asus A7M266 and Athlon XP 1900+

I am putting together a system for my roomate. I got the A7M266 and the Athlon XP 1900+. Everything went in fine, bios recognizes the cpu and the ram count is good. Both hd's show up as well as floppy, cd and cdr. Bios splash screen comes up and nothing, just a blinking cursor. It doesn't seem to even attempt to boot off any of the drives. After trying several things, even just getting down to nothing but 1 dimm, vid card, and just the floppy, I'm still getting the same results. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The bios revision on the board is 1004a.

What kind of os are you running? If it's xp, then there's a setting that is trying to get too much out of the ram...set all the ram settings to default. That was my experience with a blinking curser.

If you are going to run an XP processor on an A7M266, you first need to flash the BIOS to version 1005 or 1006 and set the "slew rate" to 1. The problem is (boy are you not going to be happy with this), you most likely will not be able to do this unless you put a "non-XP" (t-bird, duron) on the board first. I don't believe there is any workaround for this either. Wouldn't happen to have an extra Duron laying around would you?

Thanks for the info, I'll look into picking up another processor. I think I may have a friend with one that I could 'borrow' for a little bit 🙂
