I flashed the bios with latest update and popped in a xp2000 cpu, no video. Fans will spin up and hd crunches away, but I don't get any video. My thoughts are that the 300w antec ps is too weak? Arggggg. Jumper settings are set to JumperFree mode, with dip switches all set to off. Anyone else have an opinon? Thanks.

You might have to look at your "slew" settings are. I am by far no expert on this but if you go to the AMD MB ASUS Forum you will find a thread by Klondikekit that is a MUST read. You may have to do a search on it but it used to be a "sticky". Many, many pages. It might be easier to post in that forum with a question as to the settings you would need. I can offer this though; your board WILL support the CPU; it's just a matter of the settings and/or as you stated yourself.......your PS might be the weak link in the chain.

hmm, i had a similar problem.

does it works if you switch back to your old processor?

300W should actually be okay for that system, I have 8x case fans, memory fans, 3x HDDs, 2xCD-ROMS, GF3ti200, XP1700+, Asus A7V-333 all running off some PS who I have never heard of, lol! So your Antec should be fine!

Not so. More depends on the quality of the PS and it's amp ratings. BTW, 8 case fans and Memory fans?!?! Give me a break. If you are truely running all that, you are on borrowed time.
Take a good look at the site I linked to. What BIOS did you have before the update? Was this system up and running before this? If so, what CPU did it have? You would want to take the system down to the bare minimum essentials; CPU, HSF, One stick of RAM, video card and maybe the floppy drive. Nothing esle. Reset the CMOS via the jumper points on the board and then try to boot with the minimal items just listed. See if you can get into the BIOS and try changing the slew rate by a factor of 1.
Important to know if this is a new install or an existing one with an updated CPU. Also, recheck the VIO settings. The manual had one of those backwards.
And, if you can get/borrow a better PS, it would be a good idea to test that. I first ran that board with a Skyhawk 300 watt PS and it was just "borderline" for power needs and that unit was on the AMD approved list that they used to publish. I changed to an Enermax 350 watt and it cleaned up the power issues. However, you should be able to get it to boot with the minimal configuration; assuming all is set correctly. LMK and good luck!

Yeah, I changed the slew rate, but I think it was the wrong one, I will try changing the DDR slew rate this time. Hah, what a crock. Thanks for the help. I'll post my results.

Did you go to, and investigate that thread by "Klondikekit " on the site that I linked to?? I think you will find your answer there. Either that or you will find that you have a defective MB. I would encourage you to contact Klondikekit directly also. He has a mountain of info on that board.

I hope this thread isn't already dead.....but have you written to ASUS directly for help? I recently placed a 2200+ in my A7M266, and had to adjust the JEN jumper, with the DIP switches (all 'off' does not sound right), and switching the VID to a higher Voltage....along with the S2K slew rate to "1" ("1" is apparently for the XP cpu's). ASUS tech help gave me the info, along with the BIOS upgrade needed, and the 2200+ works just fine! I hope they can help you.

The oldest Antec 300W unit, the PP303X, has only a skimpy 160W on the combined 3.3V + 5V outputs. Its successor, the PP303XP, has 180W, the bare minimum by most peoples' way of thinking. I would take this opportunity to get an Antec SL350, or TruePower 330, or Enermax 365 or 465, or Sparkle Power 300, 350 or 400, any of which have at least 220W to 270W available on the 3.3V + 5V lines combined.

This advice brought to you by a member of the AnandTech distributed-computing team... Get Into It. ;)
