ASUS A7A266 Not Posting Problem

I just bought an Asus A7A266 motherboard processor combo. I the computer together and it won't post. The power light is on on the motherboard, the fan on my video card turns on so theres power to the slots as well. Is this some sort of RAM issue, I have in there a 256 mb DDR266. And an AMD XP 1.5 Ghz. processor.

Any help would be greattly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Peter

Check that you have revision 1.10 of the A7A266 motherboard.

If you have the more common version 1.03 and 1.04, you are going to have a problem as these revisions do not support the Athlon XP processor.

You can find the revision, printed on the PCB in small lettering next to the name of the motherboard.

So did you check the PCB revision or not? If you refuse to even look, then I cannot help you any further.

I have some information on ASUS motherboards, but no other brands. Not enough information on a formal FAQ at the moment anyway.

You probly don't want to hear someone tell you to spend some money but my suggestion is to buy a 550 mhz duron (or an athlon) and flash the bios to the one that'll take xp 2100+ (ver. 1011). It works for the a7m266. Not the bios of course! Oh yeah, just try flashing YOUR bios with one for a different motherboard. hehe

You can pick up a duron 800 at newegg for about 30 bucks plus shipping. Order something else too because shipping is cheaper with multiple items. Who couldn't use another hdd or some ram?

I used to have one and I know mine came set with a dipswitch in the sdr position instead of ddr and the manual was incorrect on how it should be set so you may want to check that dipwitch if you havent already,I think it was #5 and its supposed to be off
