is there anyway that the new mb's are identified as v2, with the SPP chipset?? Been looking at buying this board and will likely do so in a week or so, but want to make certain that I get the newest release.

And, did they ever get their dolby certification straightened out, or is that issue still in limbo??

thanks

Usually they print the version number on the motherboard itself. I've mostly seen them by the PCI slot area, sometimes inbetween 2 PCI slots, or by the last slot and edge of the board, or on the edge where the printer port is but by the PCI area.

Asus puts the board revision between the PCI slots. A complete board revision (where they actually make a new substrate) is silk-screened directly on the board and a minor revision is a sticker (1.4, 1.5, 1.6 etc) to the right of the model number.

Not sure about the dolby, but mine sounds great whether it's dolby certified or not!

thanks for the info.

what I was really hoping for, was some description in the sales material or web info, that would ID the particular board. Tried contacting a few of the places and leaving emails requesting specific info on the board, but nothing back yet. Don't want to purchase the board only to find it's one of the older units. May have to contact ASUS and see if they have any specific literature that would ID the newer boards and how to ID them at the various web sites.

but if anyone else has words of wisdom or can help out, I'ld appreciate it. :D

Version 2 - FSB: 400/333/266/200MHz
Version 1.04/1.06 - FSB: 333/266/200MHz

Get it from Newegg. There is a good chance that the rev 1 has been discontinued too. I've noticed that they usually have a lot of them for sale as refurbs.

Unfortunately, theres no way of determining the ver. of the board without opining the box (which i doubt the sellers would do). It doesnt indicate it on the sticker, and unless theres certain (an different) bar code for the ver 2.0 board, then they will never know.
When you actually have the board (or if the store is kind enough to check), than 2.0 would difffer:
(it doesnt say rev 2.0 on the board!!!, could be 1.3 and above)

-BIOS Chip on 2.0 has "1003" written on it - the newest BIOS
Ask the store when they got the board. ASUS 2.0's are only being made since march 2003, if they got their stock earlier, its not 2.0
-The only, really sure way to determine - is the boot up screen: it will say "A7N8X2.0 Deluxe"

definitely getting close, and the March deadline will help out.

during a search of prior threads that may have covered this topic (no luck but did find some other useful info) I came across some feedback stating that not all v2 boards contain the SPP chipset. this is new info for me and I'm not certain if this is really important to me or not. I'll be using 1 gig memory on it (2 sticks DDR3200 512 from Mushkin) and at least an AMD 2400; will the addition or lack of the SPP chipset impact this???

really appreciate the feedback. :D
