Asus 6990 Listed in Europe for 627 euro's

It says PCI-E 3, maybe AMD didn't exceed PCI-E specs, they just made the card PCI-E 3 compatable. Does anyone know if PCIe3 has higher power limits?

As much as i'd love 599.00 i still think 699.00 is more accurate for the egg.

Newegg still has 5970's for 900 dollars
 
That's an Italian website, Italy has 20% sales tax included.

So that's more like 500 Euro, which is exactly 699 USD.
 
Well the HD5970 was supposed to be $600 against a $400 and $300 5870/50, so it could be anything.

I'll throw in $650 to split down the middle.

I don't think the 590 @ $800 will force dramatic price cuts in the 580. I don't think nVidia has a huge amt of 580's to sell. That's why they are so expensive relative to other cards in the market, even the 570, now.

Let's face it. When this all shakes out anyone who's truly interested in "best value" in this market will buy 2x HD6950 and unlock them.
 
I'd have to guess $700, simply because with good overclocking the performance should be comparable to two 6970s, which are still hovering around $350. I could see them moving to $600, especially if Nvidia is aggressive with pricing. Either way, the 6990 should force the price of the 580 downward.

Looking at the Anandtech bench comparisons between the 6970 in Crossfire and the 580 in SLI, the performance advantage of the 580 isn't as much as I expected, especially for the price difference. Perhaps its due to better scaling for AMD (or just the listed benchmarks being more favorable to AMD), but even if Nvidia releases the 590 based on GF110, I don't think they'll be able to command a significant price difference.

I'm pretty sure that everyone who bought a 580 knew exactly what they were getting into. Some people are willing to pay a lot to simply have the best card available, even if from a value perspective it's not worth the extra $150 over a 570 or 6970. You can even get similar performance if you run 460s in SLI which can be had for a little over $300.
 
Heres a launch 5970 article. It notes the pricing. As of Nov 09 the 5970's were mostly 625-675 when the 5870's were 399.99

Imo, the delta between 1 6970 and the 6990 is going to be much bigger, not sure why either 🙂 . Also at 5970 launch it was before Christmas and Nvidia did not have Fermi in site until March 10'.

Maybe its because these dual gpu cards are the last hurrah until 28nm , which might be 12' ?

The smallest here is the 5850 🙂

yep i think it will end up at $599 because I'm still remember amd slide that said they won't price their card higher than $599

It's funny that you say that. My 580s were the first parts I bought for my new build, and then the Sandybridge motherboard issue happened, then it took ages to get my current motherboard, and now there seems to be a bug with my motherboard and I'll have to RMA it, meaning I've had 580s for over a month just sitting on my shelf. Bad luck and all that, but lesson learned. The 580s were about 490 euros each when I bought them. At that price, there's no reason to buy one over a 590 unless you are really into single gpu solutions.

I doubt the 580 will go down in price as much as you suggested in what I quoted.
