Asus 4k monitor $3,800.00

So, who is buying it? Who is buying more than one? Surely a few of you can cut back on lunch money for the week to spring for a few of these.

Even if I was getting one I wouldn't be eager to post on these boards about it. I would surely be blasted about how it was a colossal waste of money it was because 1080p is all you need and I could buy 30 of them for the price of that 4k screen.

If I really cared about what the rest of this board thought about my rig and it's specs I would share the details in my sig. I tried that years ago but was called out as a fan boy as if the hardware I use is indicative of the flag I waive.

That was my sour puss comment for the day, lol. Must be the rain. Maybe I will post a follow in a little bit when I get to burn 😉

It's a colossal waste of money. 1080P is all you need. I'd rather buy 30 cheap TN 1080P monitors and nail them to all of the empty wall space in my computer room.

If it enables you to fit more usable information on the screen, that's cool. For example, fit another row or so of data in Excel. But if all it does is make the pixelation less pronounced while not allowing to fit more usable information, I dunno if that's worth it. Something like a trick to squeeze super-tiny pixels in where even if you fit more information you cannot see it without using a magnifying lens.

In other words I hope it's higher resolution with a reasonable pixel size.

Stupid high price. Doesn't keep me from doing mental masturbation about bringing such a beauty home. With her friends Titan 1 and Titan 2.

Some of us don't have unlimited income. The thought of $3800 going towards a monitor is enough to make me physically gag. Especially when I think about all the other cool stuff I could do with 3800.

Lol imagine how small windows interface will be with it. We know that windows doesn't scale interface to the resolution enough good beyond it's redefined values.

ASUS' 31.5-inch 4K monitor priced at $3,799, 39-inch version coming in Q3 (eyes-on)

😎 Nice.

that doesn't mean the guys that have a little extra coin to play with should be harassed about how stupid they are all the time or have to explain their seemingly lavish purchases.

Some people drink coffee, smoke, habitually eat out, play lotto all the time, etc... It's amazing what even average income can afford if you cut out the frivolous crap.

I know you can relate to this:

I remember plenty of times when I would go riding with guys that didn't realize just how much faster a Hayabusa was over there Gixxer 600's and the likes. I would always hear about how their bikes were 0-60 in the low 3's where mine was only like a .5 second faster.... that was until they realized what that actually means. =)

They used to say the same thing about these:
In fact, he is very right, we are even way down, the more expensive CRT monitors sold in mid-1990s supported resolutions upto 2048x1536, which is way more than Full HD that became mainstream just few years ago.

The good ole days.. Do you still have a hayabusa? lol that sounds crazy just asking. Nothing like hitting the throttle and watching the speedometer climb nearly as fast as your rpm gauge.

nah man, I had a little girl a couple years ago and decided I wanted to take out a couple variables that could I live without. I do have a Yamaha Raptor though.....

I will ride again, just not now.

Smart choice. I just one day asked myself what I was doing so at that point it was time to hang it up.
I have thought of getting a dirt bike though and putting around at some trails. I have a truck and trailer so another $1000 on a dirt bike wouldn't be much of an investment. Hmm...

I think you might be misinterpreting where people are coming from. To pick something recent, the "uproar" about Titan pricing, for example, has nothing to do with people being able to, or being willing to spend $1K on a video card. It's about nVidia taking advantage of it's position in the market with that price. It was also about the hypocrisy of people who complained about Tahiti's launch price but then defended Titan's pricing. Some people just asked to have their faces rubbed in Titan's pricing because of the uproar they took part in with Tahiti. With that said, anyone who would have attacked you about buying a Titan would have been out of line. You are not an nVidia defender regardless of their actions. You are an enthusiast and deserve to be able to come here and enjoy yourself.

On topic: It's new tech*. It's going to be expensive at first and come down in price. If you want it now and can afford it, go for it. We rely on people like you to try the stuff out first for us, anyway. 😉

*New tech is not the same thing as a new model. As a rule a new model should improve performance for the same or lesser price.

My damned cell-phone has a 1080p OLED screen, and this thing with it's shit black levels and contrast ratio on-par with a 1950's TV cost almost 4 grand? Yeah, no thanks.

The price will come down. And really wow. If MacBooks can have retina 15" displays then why can't a 31.5" have 4k? It would look print quality amazing across all 31.5". The huge issue for a gamer is that no GPU can max out modern games on that. They have enough trouble on 1600p. And I'm no fan of dual gpu options. But for regular use it would be great. This will hopefully hit $2k in a year and a half. That's comparable to eizo or nec 1600p options.

Edit: If this incorporated a high quality scaler I would play games at 2k and allow it to double the pixels. Even better if future GPUs had a low performance cost/low latency scaling and AA built in that would be better.
