Went laptop shopping today... don't usually go to B&M but saw some decent deals in the paper so decided to head to Best Buy.

Checked out the Asus laptops, and saw the Asus on clearance from $1049->$833

Pretty hot in my opinion:

Intel Centrino 2
P8400 2.26Ghz
14.1" 1280x800 Widescreen LED Display
nvidia GeForce 9600GS 1GB GDDR3
320GB 5400RPM HDD
DVD+-RW
Webcam/Mic
5USB/ESATA/HDMI

It looks like it's still $1049 online but it might be worth it to check your store. If anyone needs I can post a scan of the receipt...

It's a good laptop. I have the slightly-higher-end non-B&M version of this (N80Vn-GP011C: P8600 > P8400; 9650M GT > 9600GS) and it's GREAT. The LED screen is beautiful, and games run great (currently running Assassin's Creed and Dead Space on high settings). So this laptop looks like a great deal. One thing worth mentioning: when you buy an ASUS through a B&M like this, you are not eligible for ASUS's current promotion of a free 1-yr accidental damage protection (this is in addition to ASUS's standard 2 year warranty - accidental damage covers things like spilling liquids on your laptop, stepping on it, etc). For someone who really wants the accidental damage protection, I'd recommend taking a look at the N80Vn-GP011C.

Just as an FYI, I got this after reading the thread and it's a total lemon. The "D" key is broken, it can't come out of hibernation, the pc clock keeps resetting, and the scrolling area of the touchpad doesn't work right. I'm really shocked as I have a lot of respect for the ASUS brand, but obviously this one is going back. Hopefully I just got a bad copy.

A co-worker just brought one of these in. Just an FYI they keys are gloss also (kinda annoying). The trackpad is level with the palm rest so I found myself moving my finger off the edge a lot and wondering why the mouse wasn't moving. Otherwise a decent lappy. Vista 64 was actually really snappy on this.
