Hey everybody, another feather in our collective caps! I see it as another potential world to explore (or exploit, depending on how cynical you are) in the future.

It?s obvious that religion is ever becoming a liability. Instead of looking inwards to find reasons to annihilate each other, lets unite and reach into space.

I wonder what they will name the tenth planet?

What's your definition of a planet?

Mine is "any object that orbits a star and has enough gravitational force to form itself into a
sphere."

Edit:

Oh and is NOT a star itself!

As long as it's larger than the largest possible celestial body with atmospheric clouds some will say it is a planet. Others will say that due to its distance from the Sun and its orbit not being in the same plane as the other planets, it isn't. Pluto is off by 17 degrees and this new one is 45 degrees off. Most I am sure will consider it a Kuiper belt object and not a planet at all, guess we won't know until the IAU decides.

Sedna was discovered long before this and several other similer planet like objects.

They should release a solid and straight-forward definition of a planet. Why should an object's orbital inclination have anything to do with it's classification?

I guess it depends on who discovers it. (oh, how I want to make a face here) Americans discovered that one too.

Religion kills people. Been doing so since before recorded history. Isn't that reason enough?

To call it out in a thread that had absolutely nothing to do with it? No.

But to call it out in a forum where many of its members presumably thrive on it, I would say yes.

It's either that or pure hatred and jealousy for you know who.

The sad thing is that if NASA launches a few more shuttles we'll have a planet named 'FOAM'. Maybe it's time to update those shuttles a bit, eh?

Sorry, I have a hard time looking at the stars with anything other than romantic bliss anymore. The sense of adventure when I look up at night is just gone. I feel like nothing important has happened in the space program as long as I've been alive and it's a sad truth when your parents got more excitement out of space travel than my generation has had so far. Technology advances, right?

Off topic here, but.. How would you have any idea? If it was never recorded, how would you know religion existed, and how would you know it killed people?

I'm sorry, I just assumed that the trend existed before recorded history. Murder in the name of religion probably first manifested itself the moment that someone decided that it would be a good idea to write things down as they happened, or sometime after. My bad.

Let us call this new 10th planet PLUTO and then rename the old Pluto into something like "Asteroid 3205427659876039456". I never liked the Pluto orbit, with it being elliptical and all.
