That the Soviets would've exposed in a heartbeat.

RIP, Neil Armstrong. :(

A hero for all mankind has departed for a higher plane. :(

I was 12 when he made that giant leap for humanity. Still remember the shivers I felt on that momentous occasion. The man was smart, quiet and an amazing pilot even before the program to find those with the Right Stuff got initiated.

From the Ars Lounge:

In the Korean War he had half a wing shot off and flew the plane out of enemy territory before he ejected. He made seven flights in the X-15. He successfully crash landed a number of planes that had issues during test flights (including the X-15) He successfully brought Gemini 8 after a catastrophic roll after docking with the Agena. He was nearly killed while testing a Lunar Landing Vehicle whose controls had malfunctioned (I've seen the footage of this).

Those of who saw it live didn't even notice TBH, we just put some dudes on the moon, leaving out the "a" didn't matter, we knew what he meant..

Don't shoot the messenger ;) The poster above pointed out a historical fact. You said WTF, and I provided proof for said fact.

Nothing more, nothing less.

With that being said, even though Neil isn't profiled in it, it's time for me to watch "The Right Stuff" again.

I met him once. I worked for a corporate who had an employee award trip program and they brought him as a guest star.

Rest in peace.

great guy
wish he would've said more in public about his moon experience

he had one shot at a great line and flubbed it

I thought this was common knowledge? I mean, I knew it at least:

video of flubb - http://www.hq.nasa.gov/office/pao/History/alsj/a11/a11v_1092338.mpg

Any deathbed confessions? :p

Yes, he confessed that NASAs Apollo "MOON LANDING" program was a fake and everything was filmed in a studio. j/k.

:( He will be missed.

It greatly saddens me that we may be approaching a time where there is no one left alive that has set foot on the moon...

I didn't shoot anyone!, yikes!, if that's considered a "flub" so be it, but ask anyone who watched it live, it was such an incredible moment you just didn't notice..

May we some day pick up the standard he carried and move even further along the path he helped to set. RIP.

Should be a sticky.
