Astraweb has a promotion going for unlimited access for a year for $96 with the price locked in for life. I have used them for about 6 months and had zero problems. Completion is well over a year and speed always maxes out my connection at 10Mbit, others on the newsbin site have gotten up to 300Mbit so nobody should have a problem with speeds.

Doomer, search 'Usenet newsgroup' on wiki. That should explain it better than i could.

I've been using Astraweb's unlimited for almost a year now and i love it. Good retention and completion rates and fast too. Faster than my previous services like usenetserver.com and Newsdemon. Like the OP, i've had zero problems.

usenet is last "safe haven" for pirating, low fee for unlimited downloads of anything.

that's only reason for its popularity, and that's why providers are marketing fast transfers and completion rates.

Hm...i'm already paying $11 a month, but I don't have $96 to drop atm. Oh well.

But yeah, anyone looking for good usenet service, astraweb is where it's at. Best retention, great speeds, SSL included free...you really can't beat it.

Seriously. I don't even know if the groups I used to participate in are still active. Well, soc.singles is probably still active (yay to online dating before dating web sites existed) but dunno about the rest.

FYI, for those downloaders that aren't too overly zealous the Astraweb 180 gig block download for $25 is a pretty good deal. If it lasts you more then three months then you'll save over the unlimited account.
