Too Italian for an Aston, IMO.
The rendering being of a red car doesn't help with that perception either.

Also those rear bulging haunches. They are too brash for my perception of what an Aston should look like. In general the rear-end doesn't work for me - as an Aston.

Put a Maserati badge and grill on that body, call it MC-8 and I'll be more enthusiastic.

I think the only reason it looks like this is because the mid-engine design. Aston Martin isn't known for mid engine cars exactly so I'm sure they had some styling ques inspired by the big boys

Don't most of the mid-engine super-cars look the same that from that angle? For that matter wouldn't aerodynamics and available tech pretty much dictate the form-follows-function design of these vehicles?

I disagree, there's a lot of difference between an Alfa 4C and a Ford GT and an Audi R8 and a Porsche Cayman. It's like saying all front engined coupes look the same...

Also, I don't believe an Aston would have to be styled in a wind tunnel. It's bad enough that Lamborghini went that way with the latter cars.

I think my main point of contention is that the car is too low and wide for an Aston. And too arse-heavy. The VW school of design (especially the Veyron/R8) would better suit the Aston brand. Make it look like a fastback, only with the engine in the back, and don't go too aggressively cab forward. And don't slant that nose so low, in comparison to the wheel arches.

Correct. It's not gonna happen. Unfortunately.

I guess I'm in the minority. I don't find it especially good looking. No I'm not saying it ugly or even bad, but it just doesn't really do much for me and I think would be awful for Aston Martin. Its just too generic and lacks any real character. Yeah its got the Aston styling cues, and while I do like the designer trying to tie it in with the lineage of the fender silhouette of the old car, it does look wrong. It needs a bit swoopier of a canopy, less bubble.

The back end actually makes me think Jaguar first.

There were a couple of other Aston Martin mid-engine designs that I thought were more interesting.

Aston is a mixed bag for me. I feel the DB9 and the Vantage look good, but the new Vanquish is in some ways better some ways worse. I hate the big blank carbon fiber on the front fascia, and I really don't like the little rear spoiler. I also think it would look a lot better if they'd do the full width taillight treatment like the One-77 had, on the Vanquish it could go along the edge of the spoiler in a really narrow LED array. I miss that on the 911s too and in both of these instances I think the narrow taillights really play into that.
