I'm really confused.

I thought AMV8 = DB9 = cheap Aston Martin priced to compete with 911. Now I see there's a DB8. Article called DB9 the flagship, but I thought that was DB12 (Vanquish). Where does DB9 fit into the lineup and how much does it cost?

Vanquish S - $255,000
DB9 - $160,000 (more for the Volante model)

hehehe . . .

GIMME ANOTHER ONE 😛

The Ford GT is being sold for well over $200k still. 🙁

I'm guessing it competes with a pretty stacked porsche.

The 996 Turbo lapped the Nurburgring in 7 minutes 56 seconds. The 996 GT3 did it in an identical 7 minutes 56 seconds.

The preproduction Aston Martin V8 Vantage did it in 7 minutes 51 seconds. I'm guessing that if it cannot beat the raw acceleration of a 911 turbo, its grip and handling will more than make up for it.

It's still just a ford. 😉

On the older (Few years old) Aston martin 6.0L V-12 it was two Taurus engine blocks welded together. A couple of reviews saw where the two block were welded at.

That was the DB7. That engine is, I think, the same one in the still-produced Vanquish, and the DB9 also uses a detuned version of this engine.

The V-12 was actually two Ford Mondeo V-6s (I believe but am not 100% certain that it was the same 24-valve V-6 found in V-6 second-gen Probes and Contours, but of which are surprisingly nice to drive). Notably, the V-12 was built by Cosworth, and was far more than the sum of its parts!

I dunno about the accuracy of these informal records. AM really has no recent history of making cars that handle well at the highest levels of performance, so I just don't believe they are making a car that handles better than modern 911s. I guess we'll see.

Beautiful. But damn those side windows look tiny. Must feel pretty claustrophic in the driver's seat - not that I would ever know what that felt like.:frown:

That was a mistake by one reviewer that got repeated over and over. The block, the crank, the cylinder heads, the camshafts and the lubrication system were all developed for that V12. Only a few parts and features, mainly related to the valve train, were taken from the Ford Duratec (which was developed by Porsche for Ford).

I agree that without back to back tests, it's hard to compare. However, those porsche times were run by Walter Röhrl, so they're about as fast as they come.

The AMV8 is about 500lbs lighter than the DB9, which probably accounts for most of the performance difference.

Modern 911's handle like cr*p. Yes, they've made a lot of improvements, but having the engine so far back is too much of a disadvantage. The Boxster is a much better platform for handling.

AM takes the cake b/c all fvcking Porsches look the same and they have become such a flavor of the month ...

there is only I Porsche that is out now that I respect ... Carrera GT
