I once wrote a subroutine called asterix. It's sole function was to send an asterisk character string CHAR(42) to a serial port. The asterisk was the reset command for the Tektronix 1502B TDR cable tester. The tester would often get confused during automated data collection and have to be reset with every new sweep. Since I was programming in LabView, the subroutine was called by wiring to an asterisk icon. I'm rather fond of the asterisk.
