Edit: btw, good luck!

You might not have waited too long, depending on your physical shape and ASVAB scores. I'm 34... I'd be a bit more concerned about reconciling your sig with your thoughts on joining the military. If it's the right thing for you to do, go for it!

Edit: I think I read your sig wrong, my apologies!

Congrats, I scored a perfect ASVAB too, they offered me any MOS... Didn't enlist though.

My nephew's currently @ Ft. Benning & may still be there next month. He's not exactly going to be setting up networks, but he's a great kid:D

Send me a PM if you want to look him up...

Astaroth- Good luck and I am going to miss you around here until you are set back up with the ability to post. Ft. Benning sucks... especially if you have basic this summer.

Make sure you go to airborne school. once you get in, you'll never get a chance to go even if you want. The only way i've seen people get it is if they re-enlist, so go now if you can. Also, 99 percentile in ASVAB doesn't mean squat...it just means you beat out all the other dumb kids who took it. Your GT score on the asvab is your raw score...130 means you got everything right.
BTW, your recruiter is screwing you. If you got a 99% on Asvab, you should be able to max out on your cach bonus which i believe should be at around 20K nowdays... Heck i got 12K cash and 15K college loan repayment 6 years ago signing up with a ranger contract...and that was when the Army was cheap. Oh yes, you can get both cash AND loan repayment, but the recruiter won't tell you that.

where are you going for basic and AIT? My bro is trying to get me to inlist in the Nat. Guard(he's a cannon cocker/field artillery). Don't know if that's the way i want to go in my life.

Congrats

edit: spelling

Basic's going to be at Fort Benning, GA, and AIT will be at Fort Gordon, GA. Once that's complete, my current plan is to be stationed at Fort Lewis, WA, but that could (would) change if I go Airborne.

my bro went to benning for his basic, and my buddy is going back there in June(he re-enlisted, he's a captain). good luck. we're all proud of you.

Go to jump school and get your wings, don't settle for the easy path of being a dirty, stinkin', rotten "leg" (a non-parachutist soldier). Congrats and enjoy basic.

But i'm still thinking about it. Last option.

All of my line item scores on the ASVAB were 130 or higher. Trust me, there were indeed a lot of other "dumb kids" there, like the one pimply-faced skinny 17 year old geek going into the Marines because he wanted "to be the best of the best".. Dang it, now I'm going to have to go back and bug them about Airborne now that you all have me really thinking it over.. Not sure on the bonuses, because at MEPS I saw how they were assigned per position (and if I went into the 33W MI position, I'd be at 17K, and no one else there was anywhere near that).

Have fun and see the world. The military is the best chance to take trips abroad -- it annoys me when I hear people who say they never want to go overseas. Then again, I like it because it saves the slots for people like me. :)

Counterintel sounds really interesting although I wonder if it is in actuality very boring. Anyone know?

They must have changed the way they score the ASVAB. When I took it in 1982 I scored 134. Of course, that was 21 years ago.

Thanks everyone! :D

I will, of course, post pics after I'm out of Basic and in a position to do so..
