I bought this game a couple of weeks ago, it's an early access game through Steam. There are a handful of cars and tracks and pretty much all you can do is hot lap for right now. Doesn't sound that fun, but the game is pretty amazing. The game has great car physics and the graphics are pretty awesome. Also, the cars can be modded, I have already loaded in two sound mods to a couple of cars and they sound very good to me.

Anyone else played this game yet? I am hoping we get some more cars and tracks pretty soon.

The game can be a system killer as well, I did a video @ 1440P with everything maxed out and it definitely can put a hurting on your system, although 8XAA at 1440P is pretty much overkill.

I thought about getting it cause it looks neat but I didn't want to throw the money at it not knowing much and it being in early access. I've bought some early access games and been pretty disappointed...

I understand, this is my first experience buying a early access game. The game feels pretty polished, just needs more content. I haven't had a single crash or anything out of the ordinary. I am not much of a racing sim guy, but the car physics in this game are incredible compared to most racing games I have played. I just used a Xbox 360 wireless controller and once you set it up right, it works great.

Does it control decently with a controller, or do you need a racing wheel?

I've sort of been looking for a racing game after moving away from the consoles.

Yes, very well IMO. I use these steering settings with an Xbox 360 controller.

I tried using an older Logitech controller I had, and it didn't work. The Xbox 360 controller works very well in this game and I don't have a need to buy a racing wheel. I am not that hardcore...yet.

What other games would you compare the car physics to?

GT games on PlayStation (haven't played 6) and NFS Shift 1 and 2 are much worse in comparison. I am not a hardcore racing guy or sim with wheel setup person, so my opinion may be less valid then others, but the cars feel good to me.

Have you played Grand Tourismo 5? I have a PS3 and a Logitech racing wheel but hardly ever use it because I have to move my PS3 into my computer room, set up the wheel and hook everything up. Huge pain in the ass. If I could at least cut out the PS3, I'd love to have a racing sim/game to play.

Yes, I have, but not with a wheel. I do like GT 5, especially when you consider the amount of content it brings to the table. In AC the cars feel more natural and not as predictable. I don't race with any assists accept for ABS, so this is my basis for a comparison. AC as is, is not a full game with multiplayer and opponent racing, so it's just you - your car and the road hot lapping, but still very fun. Just don't expect a GT replacement right off the bat.

From what I have read, Project cars will be a great GT and Forza replacement for PC and other platforms. Eager to try that when it comes out too. I guess it's from the same team that developed NFS Shft.

How does it compare to Forza?

Currently the closest thing to Forza on PC is Shift 2 Unleashed, which is a great game in and of itself (helmet cam whut) but would like some other options on PC in this genre.

I'm really looking forward to this. Gonna wait until it's more complete. With the looks of the graphics I might have to wait until I up my GPU power as well.

Not completely true. There are many great simulation level racers. Just look up SimBin Studios on Steam. They don't offer the vanity of buying cars or painting them, but if you want some excellent car physics there are options.

A good place to start is Race07. Check out the Retro expansion if you like older cars or the GTR pack if you want supercars.

You really gotta love the racing though. None of them have the level of polish games like Forza and Gran Turismo have, but if all you care about is what happens on the track there is a lot to love there.

I've bought this. I also have Race 07 and all of the addons. I have gt5 and 6, but setting up the wheel with the PS3 is a huge pain. So I need PC racing games to play. Simbin titles can be good fun, but the graphics are shocking. I've long wanted a good looking modern car sim for the PC, similiar to gran turismo.

Assetto Corsa fits the bill it's great fun. Although, very difficult at first, the cars behave a lot different to other games. More realistically i'd say, feels more like driving a real car at speed, becoming more unstable as you pick up speed. The Ferrari F40 is interesting, never driven one obviously, but it lacks power initially until the turbos arrive and it gets a real shunt of power. The tracks are good looking also. Not the best looking game of all time, but certainly the best PC racing simulation i've played looks wise. Although, Project Cars will probably look better, who knows?

Never played any Forza games... only console I have now is a Wii U. I will say NFS Shift 1 & 2 are arcade games in comparison. I am not saying they were bad, just not as good as AC as far as car feel.

Agreed. The cars also feel like the tires are actually touching the road. You feel the bumps on every track and even going off the track into the gravel you can hear the rocks fly up into your wheel wells. I think the colors have a little too much contrast, but it seems like the most realistic use of lighting yet in a racing game.

Even comparing this game to Project Cars- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-vCfNj_9Kw

I love how the cars sound in Project Cars, not a fan on the high speed tranny wine, but the motors sound pretty nasty, much like NFS shift and much better than AC imo. I love the windshield reflections and the dirt smudges in AC though, it adds more realism to the game.

Just bought it to support these kinds of sim-oriented games.

Seems pretty good so far but only playing with a gamepad. Need to get a wheel!

It works pretty well with an Xbox 360 controller. Not sure what gamepad you are using? Watching videos with people using a wheel, it does look to be the preferred method to race with.

I was playing on the Pro level with the xbox 360 controller haha and I just can't play those kinds of games with a pad especially with no aids on. I HAD a Logitech Momo Force before but haven't used any type of wheel in a long time.

Might be time for a Fanatec wheel :)

:) I would also adjust your steering settings with that controller if you can. If you look at the post above somewhere where I linked them, it makes a big difference on how the cars handle with a controller.

Shift 2 is def not an arcade racer, thats what burnout is. Shift 2 is challenging.

Is there a demo to this game?

I'd hate to drop $40 on this game and realize it's too sim'ey for me and hate it. There's a fine line between a fun, realistic racing game and one that's just too "realistic." Spinning out constantly is never fun.

Also, any idea how the game will work as far as progressing through the game? I think the Gran Turismo series really do a good job at keeping the game fun with unlocks and license courses and whatnot.

Shift 2 from what I found, is very flawed. I checked the net and apparently it's well known. The steering input is shocking.

Or Cruisin USA :D That came off pretty snobbish of me. Shift 2 is a great game for the most part. I can't say I like the drift guy yelling at you the whole time telling you " You're almost there - go for the gold! " The cars in shift do not feel as connected to the road in comparison, but the game still feels very good overall. I would wait and see if you guys can grab this game for $30 when it goes on sale through Steam. The game is slated to have another update mid-late January, so It may go back on sale then? I grabbed it for $30, I knew about it when it was $40, but the $10 off made be want to give it a chance.

The Developer stated they may release a demo when version 1.0 is released. So it's really up in the air right now. The game is not expected to take on GT in features like licenses and unlocking tracks and what not. Here is a run down of what they will have available in version 1.0. They will be working and adding content to this game all through 2014 and some of 2015 from what I have heard. With my controller properly setup, I am able to stay on course with no issue using only ABS. I am not a pro racing gamer either- or whatever you would call it ;)

I'm ashamed to say I much prefer a controller instead of a wheel. It seems counter intuitive but as bad as my hand/eye coordination is it's not near as bad as my foot/eye coordination. In a real car I have muscle memory to rely on, but I don't do so well with a cheap piece of plastic that isn't permanetly anchored to the floor. Perhaps the experience is different with a high end wheel set.

That said, I can't wait until the XB1 controller driver is released. As good as the 360 controller is, the analog triggers on the new controller put it too shame.

I certainly like Shift2: Unleashed, but it must have the tire mod. Great racing game that really seems to bring across that "edge of your seat" feeling.

I just bought this after seeing the E30 M3 and Lotus Elise on an awesome hillclimb track(user mod).

It's a phenomenal sim. The tire model is one of the best I've felt. It's also great to play a modern sim with DX11 graphics and natively supports 900 degree wheels. It's great to not have to fiddle with steering ratios to get the high rotation wheels to work right.
