I am trying to take an asset inventory where I work as an intern. I'd like to get OS, Computer Model, MAC Address, whether there is any employee owned hardware in the system, and monitor/computer serial numbers that can be used in support. What would be the best way of going about this? There are around 200 employees and I plan on going to every workstation at some point, I would just like to automate as much of the process as possible. Thanks a lot.

http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/PsInfo.html

This tool grabs system information from the local or from remote systems (I think you need Admin rights on the remote system though). You can optionally have it take in a list of computers to run against and tell it to dump the info to csv.

Just curious.

If you are working as an intern, did the Admin OK the breach?
Most likely you have limited access so it may not go as smoothly as you would like.

the admin asked me to do the audit. i would probably gain temporary admin access or use his account. I am looking for something that is free, so even a demo or shareware would be good. thanks

The Systernals app is one of the best you are going to get Freeware.

There really is no app that will do totally what you are looking for
so a visit to each PC is likely in order and probably what the admin
had in mind.
