Dark, yes I read all that directly from my manual and made sure I put it in the right usb port. I pressed the button, it flashed three times then turned stable every time that I tried it. I downloaded the most recent drivers from the Asus site. They download is a compressed zip file and I just renamed that file to Sabertoothz77.ROM I also tried it as SABERTOOTHZ77.ROM Sabertooth-z77.cap (as suggested by the Asus support person).
My motherboard is the Asus Sabertooth Z77, as far as I know there is only one of them so I am not sure how you are confused. Mine has the thermal armor on it.
If I cannot get it working myself, then I will send it back to Microcenter because the tech support guy already told me I could get a full refund.
